Which mobil oil?
I have a 94 civic hatch with a 96 spec type r swap im gettin ready to autocross the car this weekend and all thats left to do is an oil change i live in north jersey and the weathers been around the 90's for the past two weeks ive been using 15w-50 because of the weather and because of how often i race the car what grade oil are u guys using in your daily driven and weekend raced type r's. My mods so far are just intake, header, exhaust and vafc tune.
i use mobil1 10w-30, but dont get too worried for an autox your oil temps wont go that high.
which autox u going to? i used to go to nasa's autox at giants stadium but they havent had anymore since last year

Me three...
either Mobil 1, Royal Purple, or Q-synthetic. Always 5w30. My wifes element takes 5w20, and its a PITA to find synthetic at Autoparts stores. I usually get Royal Purple 5w20 from a corvette race shop downtown...
PS: If you want to go for the extended oil-change intervals that synthetic oil provides, you must use a high capacity oil-filter. The only good high capacity/effeciency filter avilable at most autoparts stores is Mobil-1. I usually change mine at 7k miles...

none.
my R used to drink that M1 stuff like water. I switched to Agip 10w60, problem solved.
Funny enough though my EVO runs Mobil1 from the factory and even during break-in didn't consume more than half a quart total. Now it doesn't consume hardly any and I already started autocrossing it.

M1 5w30...I would put anything heavier...Honda recommends 5w30 for the 'R's...plus they definately run better with thinner oil...

Most of the manufacturers of synthetic oil have retracted the claims that synthetic oil lets you extend your oil change intervals, claims that were commonly made years ago when synthetic oil first became popular.
Although synthetic oil is more resistant to breakdown at high temperatures, it accumulates contaminants and particulates at the same rate as conventional oil.

The manufactures recomendations on changing oil is as follows:
Normal conditions:
- Replace engine oil every 7,500 miles or 12 months
- Replace engine oil filter every 15,000 miles or 12 months
Severe conditions:
- Replace engine oil every 3,750 miles or 6 months
- Replace engine oil filter every 3,750 miles or 6 months

I actually had acura recommend running 5w50 in the R, haven't made the switch though.

That may be what one particular dealer recommended. However, that's not the official recommendation from Acura (i.e. Acura Division of American Honda). If you look in the owner's manual or service manual, you will find it says that 5W30 is preferred at all temperatures, and 10W30 is also acceptable when ambient temperatures are above a certain point... I think it's 20 or 32 degrees F.
Use whatever you want, of course. But that's what the manuals say.

I disagree. If the car cosumes it more (especially the M 1) then it's not where it's supposed to be so I don't agree that there would be better performance if it doesn't exist.

If your car is consuming oil you got more to worry about then the performance from the weight of your oil...

I disagree again. I'll assume by your statement that you have not read the countless threads here testifying to consumption of Mobil 1 in particular in B18C5 motors?

If your car is consuming oil and it's an ITR, it's normal.
Many ITRs consume oil. Many don't. And it's not associated with any particular brand, and it's not any particular viscosity, and it's not synthetic vs conventional. Even with any particular kind of oil - Mobil 1 5W30 or otherwise - some ITRs consume oil, and others don't. Which means, it's not the oil that causes the consumption.
Some anecdotal reports have claimed that one brand or viscosity or type (or nationality) consumes more or less than another. I have yet to see anyone do any kind of rigorous study - such as one in which a significant number of vehicles (at least 5-6) are tested, first with one kind of oil, then with another kind of oil, then back to the first kind of oil - to verify whether or not differences between oil changes are actually associated with one oil vs another.

I think mugen optimizes between road use and some light duty track service, hence 5w40. In Japan I think the unofficial oil "standard" for high-rev NA is 5w50 for track use. HKS, Apex'i, Mugen, Speed Master they all recommend either 40 wt or 50wt.
Personally I have used M1 5w30,5w40, 10w30, Redline 5w40, Motul 10w40 (it was a gift, purchased wrong but used anyways...) and Castrol 5w40. To be honest with you I cannot feel a difference in terms of engine response and revving . My motor
eats Redline pretty readily though.
