As part of my engine rebuild plans I am looking into replacing my existing "tired" engine mounts.
I am currently looking at two basic options:
1: Mugen/Spoon engine mounts

2: Innovative engine mounts

The Innovative engine mounts are cheaper then both Mugen and Spoon mounts but only include the 3 primary mounts. The two smaller mounts on the left and right side of the engine/tranny are not part of the set.
I have just spoken with Innovative about this and they suggest that these two smaller mounts are not needed and can therefore be removed completely (when using their mounts). This is attractive because it means I can shed some more weight from the front of the car.
Has anyone here used these mounts with or without these smaller OE mounts?
Are there any reasons why I should choose the Mugen/Spoon mounts over these?
Thanks!

FWIW I'll be getting a set of the Innovation ones shortly. The mugens are just so damn expensive. That and I actually got to see a set installed on PrinceAli132's car and they look to do the purpose. That and there's 3 different stages to them.
I'll be buying the Mugen mounts when the time comes. Direct replacement for stock, includes all five mounts, and they are a harder vulcanized rubber, not urethane, so daily driving will be possible without major vibrations.
If your car is a track car primarily, the Innovative product line should be fine. They look to be similar to the Hasport, only cheaper.

umm yeah id go with innovative or hasport over mugen any day
i jsut have an innovativce driver side replacement mount on my civic and its AWESOME.
and most of the time with these upgraded mount you dont have to run the lower torque mounts

I got the 75A the black ones and i don't think they're bad at all. But i have only installed two of the three mounts so far. I plan on installing the third this weekend.
With the two mounts so far there is a noticeable differece; lot better feel, more vibrations but in my opinion its not bad at all. Better feel for the road and it also feels alot better when shifting as well. As far as the car vibrating the steering wheel does shake more now and its very noticeable with the A/C on and also when the A/C is on the rearview mirror and the side mirrors do shake/vibrate.
Quality and fitment is superb.
Ill try and get you a short vid of what its like in the car if you'd like.
Dave - there is huge difference from when the car is on the sand and on asphalt.
Oh yea, not sure if it matters but this is on my LS, but do plan on getting a set for the R as well. You could also try asking Keith (Rizen) i believe he ordered the 85A for his turbo R, but just not sure if he has gotten around to installing it yet.

And as a comparison,
I've sat in Neo_'s car, he has the hasport ones with the Jim Fab lower torque mounts and his car has a bit more vibration.
Rob's R (Bbasso), all Jim Fab mounts, and his will take out your fillings. So i guess these are definetly a step up from stock, but nowhere near as ridiculous as Rob's car.

Increased vibrations are expected... but I was more wondering how the Innovative mounts might compare to the Mugen or Spoon mounts.
PrinceAli132,
Thanks for the feedback. I would love to see a video showing what the ride is like from within the car with these mounts. Have you also removed the two smaller mounts?

Any suggestions for installing the 3 innovative mounts? Short of pulling the motor.
I assume start with the rear mount, since that's gonna be the hardest, then the tranny mount, and finally the drivers side mount.

I actually started with the passanger side, then driver side, and lastly tranny cause i was waiting to install a new clutch/flywheel/pressure plate.
So far they are very easy to install. For the passanger side remove the intake, loosen bolts, and put a jack underneath. Also it wouldn't hurt to slightly bend the ac lines to have a little better access. For the driver side, move the power steering resevoir and braket out of the way and put a jack underneath as well. Its pretty self-explanatory just move whatever is in the way and put it back after installing the mount. Make sure you have some extensions handy to make life a little easier.

I have not removed those, i do plan on replacing them with some inserts sometime in the future. I'll try to take a video sometime tomorrow with the camera, hopefully it will come out decent.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the tranny mount or the driver side, but the rear mount, just because of how tight it is back there.

I'd be worried about added stresses on the block when only using 3 mounts. It's not like the two smaller mounts weigh that much. I'd use the innovative 3 and 2 stockers...
2 lower mounts are tq mounts, they ( with the rear one) prevent engine movement under load. They are only "helpers" to allow comfort from the rear in the stock form.
Rear mount is the real thing, if you replace every single mount, rear one alone will give you more then 50% of vibration, but also engine stability...
So yes, you can go just fine without them ( 2 lower ones) if you use that solid rear mount, which should clue you in that your engine will effectively be "welded" to the car.
Dedicated race car I can see a use for this, but anything that is on the street takes a lot of tollerance for discomfort to run solids...
Anyway just my .02...

From: around the corner to the left ... no, your other left
This is definitely good information cause my rear motor mount is shot and needs to be replaced. I have to look into what I want and I have no clue as to what is good or best for my application. I want to go ahead and replace all three while I'm at it too.

I've been reading some reviews of the Hasport mounts and many people seem to find the vibration levels un-bearable. Do you think that the Innovative mounts are more user friendly or that you simply have a higher tolerance to vibrations?
Are you running the OE torque mounts as well?

im running all mounts, engine and torque
i love my mounts. only time they might be too harsh is during cold startups and idle with ac on. other than that, its beautiful. it might rattle your dash a bit especially your glove box but other than that, its not bad.
when i rip it and shift to 2nd, theres no wheel hop at all and very very minimal and almost non existent wheel spin.
like i said, only time it might annoy you is idling with ac on.
i say go for it. youll thank me later.

This thread has inspired me to re-look at new motor mounts. As IF I really needed to spend any more money
.
That's surprising about the Hasports. I'll have to look into those a little more. My opinion of differents brands changes more than my underwear<--------which is daily you sick bastads

i actually just put the black billet race grey 85A innovatives on last night..... went from inserts in the torques and rear to these
im still using the torque mounts with the inserts in along with the mounts too..... compared to the inserts it is a total night and day difference.... it DEFINATELY vibrates, dash rattles, feet tingle, etc BUT mainly only about 2.5k and below.... once you are up to cruising speeds its not too bad.... i hit the highway from 60-80 cruising was pretty smooth
i daily drive my caR and im feeling like i should have gone with a more street mount but overall the quality/fit is GREAT and they give great performance.... like stated above no wheel hop at all
i dont have a video camera or i would take video to show........ if you can deal with a lil bit of vibration then they are perfect for you
