Disscusion: No airbag, No cage, No Racing harness.. how dangerous???
People with any aftermarket Steering wheel with No air bag..
how many of you guys have cage and harness?
who is using OEM seat belt?
please share your experiance with aftermarket steering wheels.
just installed momo tuner.. 350. it looks nice and almost feels like i'm playing GT 4.lol
but now the car has no airbag.. and it's kinda scary when you think about it.
when i had the airbag. i thought i would never need it or wanted it. but once it's gone. and the Dangerous meter went up alot..
so how dangerous could this get .. using OEM seatbelt with momo wheels.
EDIT (1) ~~ OEM Seatbelt.

i have a momo 350 in mine also and it doesnt bother me in the slightest.
ive been in crashes were the airbag never deployed anyway.
if your paranoid about it put, back what you took out.

Don't become a Darwin stat. Put the airbag back until you can progress to the point you have a cage and harness.
No airbag & street driving is just another opportunity to go "splat".
just my .02.
MANY HPDEs with stock seats, belts, AND airbags under my belt. **Airbags can be de-activated during hpde if you are more comfortable in that environment. It's a little different than running on the street.

I wouldnt feel comfortable driving on the street with no air bags. Air bags are great for those unexpected head on collisions, when someone drifts across the center line or comes flying out of control across the median. Granted if you are wearing a seatbelt you might not even need the air bag depending on your seating position. But Id have a hard time removing mine on the street. Even in HPDE I dont think I would bother removing it unless I was fully protected with cage, harness, helmet, etc. Ive never been a fan for REMOVING safety from my car. Its there for a reason and those reasons are usually unforseen.
If it's street use, keep the stock steering wheel and airbag. No REAL reason for a different steering wheel other than personal taste and feel. Keeping your face intact is more important than that, I'd say.
Edit: Also, your poll possibilities make no sense, you might want to reword them or something.

I don't feel scared at all having no airbags on the street. My old Toyota truck didn't even come from the factory with any airbags. Also, airbags were optional on JDM ITR's.

if you look at crash tapes your head will snap VERY close to the steering wheel...hence airbag. i can't imagine what someone head will do to one without a steering wheel. it really is like waking a step back into the 80s. you can get a harness bar and harnesses... ? cheapest route.
The big decision for me was the passenger. If I want to be a dumbass and drive without an airbag so be it, but my passenger would be without one also. I just got the JDM SRS wheel. Very comfortable and looks great!

I've been in an accident without an airbag and got lucky ('87 VW Golf). I've also seen pics of a dude that was in an accident without an airbag and WASN'T lucky, and had months of reconstructive surgery to put his face back together because of the contact it made with the steering wheel. It isn't worth 50lbs of weight removal or whatever to remove it to me.

I daily drive with harnesses+ cage, in a racing seat, and i wouldnt have it any other way. WHen i get into other cars i dont feel safe when i slide around and all that other business. Id rather stay put that question if the seatbelt lock is gonna click at the right time yada yada.
Of course a lot of people are going to say that this is overkill-- but its just my opinion.

There is a definate trade off.
I have ITR non SRS wheel. Dont think about the airbags at all.
when I had a Civic coupe I had an airbag. I was prone to accidents. bunch of tmes i was hit from the back. but once I was pushed into a benz. no airbag went off. when I crashed at Streets of willow no airbag.
I figure if you dont push your car that hard then no worries. granted you never can tell what the other idiots on the road will do and that is kinda scary.
I ran sparco bucket and harness but no roll bar. and people said that was bad. But see I have seen the gruesome pics of people who have rolled their cars and the roof jsut collapsed on them. But cmon if you are really pushing your car that hard then those are the consequences. I do not plan to push my car that hard EVER. im not racing and therefore there is nothing to win by pushing the limits to that last tenths.
if you are stupid enough to risk your life doing stupid **** then maybe you need some safety precautions.

I've been rollin' w/ no airbags for years. Doesn't bother me a bit.
Honestly, airbags are a little discouraging to me. Out of all the accidents I've been in, the only injuries I've sustained have been a result of the airbag
. Nothing like a big fist comin' at you at 200mph right to the face. Not saying that airbags don't save lives because they do; I'm just not very partial to them.

this will always be an opinion-based question because there is no real empirical evidence to prove either way. the airbag was created as just another added safety device among the growing list of preventive measures to "protect" the driver and passengers. i quote "protect" because again, there are those who differ in opinion and feel airbags to do just the opposite in an accident. im sure we've all heard stories saying how an airbag both saved a life, and how it may have ended one.
i feel the best way to truly protect yourself is to WEAR safety belts properly and pay attention. i would not doubt that the chances of an airbag saving the life of an occupant not restrained properly is greater than if there was no airbag. personally, ive never felt to be in danger with an older vehicle equipped with only the factory restraints and no airbags. the only time it concerned be was with my 1965 mustang which came from an era of only lap belts, which obviously could not protect me the way a seatbelt equipped with a lap and shoulder belt would in a frontal crash.
at any rate, there is also the legal issue of removing the factory airbags which perhaps varies from state to state, and i would be interested in hearing some personal experiences from those who've been "strapped" with this issue.

It's a risk I'm willing to take.
I also make sure that all of my passengers understand that none of my cars have airbags. If they have a problem with that, we can use other means of transportation.

actually out of a matter of interest my mothers best friends husband was killed by an airbag.
he was driveing down by the quayside when he hit a spot of black ice,the car slid into the river.air bag deployed and actually pinned him into his seat.
i cant even imagine drowning in general, let alone like that.

only thing i can do right now is take extra caution when i drive..
i can't afford cage and seats and harness at this point
but my car just became faster (motor rebuild) and got more dangerous due to no airbag

You're still in control of your right foot, correct? Then the engine being more powerful doesn't make the car more dangerous unless you drive it foolishly.

Dont airbags deflate almost as quickly as they inflate? Unless the car sank so fast air got trapped in the bag. Kinda like if you were to swim in shorts with pockets and the pockets fill with air. Either way, drowning=not good.

bingo...it took weeks to determine the offical cause of death.at first they thought it was a suicide.
