underdrive pulley and timing question

Default underdrive pulley and timing question

how do you change out the pulley do you need a special tool my engine is a B16a just ordered it tonight thanks for your help and i was also wonderin on timing what is it best to set it to without dynoing i have a header cat back exhaust cold air intake upgraded fuel rail and fuel pressure regulater which is set at 30 or 32 psi thanks

It's not that hard to change a pulley, but it's not worth it, in my opinion. It'll probably do more harm than good.

As far as timing goes, I'm not sure which one you meant:
- cam timing: I suggest you leave it at 0 degrees. You need a dyno to accurately tune that. You can use trial and error on a track, but that's still tricky.
- ignition timing: just advance it until it starts to ping, then retard it till the pinging stops. It's crude, but it'll do the trick.

wow wtf is with you guys.

you can either bust out the protractor and mark the pulley for TDC and 16 degrees away.

the honda tool won't fit on the aftermarket pulley. your best bet is to set base timing with the stock one on and thne put the UD pulley on. Try putting the car in 4th gear. Yes 4th not 5th. and holding the brakes while a buddy breaks the crank pulley bolt loose.
