Default My Big Build Thread - D Series Hybrid

Not sure how many of you care, so if nothing else, this will be a progress post for myself I can always dig up later in the archives.

I, for one reason or another, decided to build a D...

The Build:

D16Z6 Bottom end (from 1995 Civic Si VTEC)
-D16A6 (PM6 CRX Si) Pistons
-Completly rebuild and cleaned with new everything
-Bored .040 Over (from 75mm to 76mm bores)
-New Exedy Clutch
-Exedy Lightweight Flywheel
-ARP headstuds
-decked .010
-11.4:1 CR

D16Y8 Head (from 2000 Civic EX VTEC)
-milled .010
-Crower Stage 2 Cam
-Crower valve springs
-Crower Titanium retainers
-completly rebuild and cleaned with new everything
-Skunk 2 Pro Series Intake Manifold
-2 layer head gasket (removes .012)
-AEM Adj. Cam gear
-B16 Throttle boddy (increases from 56mm to 58mm)
-B16 Intake arm
-Apex'i Power Intake
-DC Sports 4-1 Headers
-2.5 inch mandrel Exhaust with 22" resonator, SNL Twin Loop

Enigne Managment
-Socketed and chiped P28 ecu
-Hondata S100 piggyback

Cooling:
-GSR Radiator

Transmition:
-EX/Si Trans

A bunch of new parts like cap and rotor for the dizzy, plug wires, Vtec valve cover and lots lots more.

A couple of photos of the engine and the car its going into.

sounds like a good build... what are you shooting for?

what's the point of the 2 layer head gasket? changing the compression some?

They work since you've viewed them, attachments on that site first require you to log in to view them. Any idea on compression?

The pictures are hosted on D-series.org
You have to be a member there to see them here. I couldn'd see them at first until I logged in there and refreshed this page.
A different picture host will fix this as im guessing d-series doesnt like hot-linking of pictures off their server.

I'll fix the pics today. The compression calculator for this specific setup, everything included with the 2 layer, the Y8 head and the overbore hits exactly at 11.0:1 CR.

You may wish to clay this motor to check you piston to valve clearance. The valves on the d16y8 head are spread farther apart due to the extra cam lobe than they are on the a6. Should be ok, just a precaution.

hmmm, its actually something that didn't cross my mind. The pistons do sit lower in the cylinder however.

Still have plenty to do on the car. I don't like the wheels, the tint is old, etc etc...
Some things waiting to go on soon:

-Full GSR suspension and brakes between the subframe and body, front and rear, from an '01 with 45K, including 1" master cylinder, and Integra brake booster.

-Rebuilt Manual rack with Quaife Short ratio gear installed.

I was looking for about 11:1 CR, and they got me there. They are also quite flat which I feel is a good attribute in a piston.

See the 1.00 on the piston? That means 1mm over... If my math is correct then: 75mm+1mm=76mm

So do I!

I'm hoping to swap next week, and first thing i do after getting the rings to seat is professional dyno tuning.
