i'm planning on using some dry ice on my floor base this weekend and i want to know what's the best way to transport dry ice? i was thinking about putting it in a cooler, but i'm afraid that when i get home it'll all be gone and a waste of money (i have about a 15-20 minute drive back).

 

just put it in a bag and in a cooler, should be fine

 

Someone shipped me something in dry ice that took a day to get here and there was still pleanty of ice. You will definately be good.

 

When we get frozen steaks shipped, they are in thick styrofoam. The inside is still frozen when open and the outside is room temp.

 

I need to ask, what exactly are u using it for? (floor base?) & where can u buy it from?

correct! You should be paying .99 a lb. use plenty of brown paper bags.

i'm using it for the sound deadening, i said floor base because i wasn't sure of the right spelling for the deadening.

yeah, i'm picking it up from a local albertson.

by the way, how long should this take me if i'm doing it by myself?

 

I don't know how much your using but I'd just put it in a thermos, I know it will stay cool in that for ages, pretty much none will melt.

 

Seriously, dry ice is NOT just like normal ice. Throw it in a cooler and I guarantee it will be there for a good while.

 

 

Make sure you inhale the fumes.

Just put it in a box, thats what i did. It takes forever for dry ice to melt when its in its solid form. When you break thats another story. It should take you probably 1/2 to an hour depending on how much ice you have. If you dont have enough itll take alot longer.

 

the reason i ask is, my cousin had bought some for his hatch one the way home from work. decided to eat dinner first before starting his project. so he put it in the freezer and sat down to eat. when he went to go grab the dry ice the **** had dissappeared.

so since my drive is about 20 minutes and it's like 100 degrees outside, i just didn't want to get home and the **** be gone.

also i plan on buying any where between 15-20lbs. is good enough for a 30 min. job or should i pick up more?

 

It is carbon dioxide, in a frozen form, since its a gas at room temp, its going to have to be way colder than water in its frozen form. i think its something like -200 degrees.

 

Just throwing this out....unless this is a drag/autocross car that you are planning on competing in, all this effort is not really worth it.

I and my buddies have done this to previous cars we owned in the days we just got into the "import scene" cause its a pretty cheap thing to do....but really after all the effort, you do not drop that much weight. It takes 100lbs to gain a 10th of a second in a quarter mile, this weight isn't even a 1/3rd of it.

It will only end up lightening the car buy under 30 lbs and it makes the car SOOOOOOOOOO much noiser inside.

Seriously, trust me.....after you do this you will be sorry.

dude, 15-20 lbs. should last you a good 2 hour

becasue a 7 lb got me about 30 mins, so yeah you will be ok...

and what ever you got left and you wanna have some fun put some in a 2 litter bottle and add a little bit of water then put the cap back on and run for your life, give it bout 5-10 mins to blow the more ice the faster...
