Default New Valve Cover Paint!

So my prelude's got this type-s style paint job on it's valve cover (below)

and i really thought it'd be nice to take the civic do the whole sibling with the v/c's: (pics of the start-to-finish)

(bare metal was all it had, with it's share of stains and miscellania)

(few coats of bbq-black)

(couple more caots and some drying left to go)

(installed!)

(also did the heat-shield in just bbq-black)

(looks like it's big brother!)

(random shot)

overall, it came out pretty well. good texture, not too over done. there are some blemishes here and there but i'm no pro, and they're hard to notice if you're not looking for them (i hope, lol)

LATES!

I've been thinking about doing this to mine. I've always wondered what you do to the places you don't want paint (ie: HONDA, or VTEC). Do you mask it, or just strip it and polish it after? Thanks.
Oh yeah both of yours look great.

on the pics, you can see where i used the 3M blue painters tape to keep the paint from lofting into the inside of the VC. i used an electric sander to sand down the paint to bare metal, it gives a really great brushed aluminum finish.

i used this (like $20) when i was finished with all the painting and drying:

nope i didn't bake it..
-installed it after letting it air-dry for a good hour
-went out for a short drive to get the under-hood temp up to normal
-let it idle for about 10 minutes so the heat could essentially naturally bake the paint.

i thought about baking it but was afraid of overcooking it. i am notorious in my house for forgetting things in the oven..that's why i'm not allowed to make that Stouffer's Baked Mac & Cheese any more

does your VC look more OEM in texture than mine? (post a pic if you've got one)

when you spray that wrinkle red paint, your suppose to give it 1 dry coat, 1 medium coat, and 1 full wet coat, its suppose to look wet and glossy but when it dries up it'll come out wrinkle just like oem. it looks like you only gave it a dry coat.
