Some questions about IT rules - 88-91 Civics.
Hi all,
With all the problems I've had with my Quebec Touring Civic, I have been thinking more and more of building an IT 88-91 Civic. I just picked up a really clean 88 DX as a street car but the temptation is there to make it into a race car. I've also been sort of wanting to build an ITC Civic std. I was checking out the IT rules and have a couple of questions:
1- Why is the 88-91 DX classified in ITA at 2225 lbs while the 88-91 Si is in the same class at 2175 lbs? This makes no sense to me... am I missing something? The Si is more powerful with a bigger engine, and can run lighter in the same class?
2- Swapping: it seems that I am not allowed to make my DX into an STD by swapping in an STD drivetrain. Is this correct? How strict is this rule?
Thanks for any insight.
Vince

You can not do a swap of any kind in IT it is based on the vin #
As for the dx si thing that is a mistake in the rules, I belive that the dx should be classed in ITB.

No, it wasn't a mistake, just SCCA's stupidness. Maybe next year the car will be classed in ITB

Yea, that's no mistake; the DX actually is classed like that right now. The Si's though are actually classed at 2250lbs after the weight changes that occured back in February.
Personally, I'd love to see both the CRX/Civic DX's and the first generation Integra's get moved to ITB. That's where they should be but I don't hold out a lot of hope for it right at the moment.

Vince, don't just wait and see.
If you guys want something looked at, send in a request to the competition board. They have soooo much on their plate right now (i.e. the new ITR class in IT) that they're not just out looking for work to do. Also keep in mind that these people on the comp. board are all volunteers. But if you do send in an e-mail with some supporting information, they WILL look at it. That's how my car got moved from ITA to ITB.

I followed your advice and sent in a request by email. Now we can wait and see for real.

It may take a couple of weeks, but I guarantee they will review it. A friend of mine just recently joined the board (before my car was moved to ITB
) and I hear about their three plus hour calls.

The SCCA already responded with an email saying that they would consider the issue and to look for an answer in a future issue of Fastrack which comes out online on the 20th of the month.
