I know it's the switch - it occasionaly closes and I've done a search and read on how to take the switch apart and clean the contacts.....but how the hell do you take the switch out of the dash?
I was being gentle (but didn't figure it out)...I don't want that brittle old plastic crumbling in my hands....theres got to be a pin or something holding it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

You just kind have to work it out, try pushng the bottom out and then the top, if I remeber correctly there is a tab on the bottom and top or maybe on the sides...I can't remeber, you need to push them in and then push it forward out of the dash...HTH
