5th gen vs 4th gen cat back
can anyone clear this up for me. Ignoring hanger locations, which 5th gen exhaust system is the same dimensions as which 4th gen...
my impression right now is...
5th gen base catback = 4th gen SI catback
5th gen SH catback = 4th gen vtec catback
buti might be wrong
again this is ignoring any hanger location differences. they are easily moved, im just worriend about the length of the whole system when assembled.
(ps the reason is because im tryin to replace my 92 si exhaust system with with the dual tip Thermal Classic, and i dont know if i should buy a SH or Base model)

im not sure ether but i have a 93 vtec prelude and 98 Sh prelude and when i went under my 93 the axel back peace looked different then from my 98 SH well thats all i saw but didnt look it at the whole thing ill try too look it up later if i have time, but lets see what others will say
thanks.. no one here has done this? im surprised. i thought it would be a bit more common since i havent run into any decent dual tip performance exhaust for preludes except for the thermal classic for the 5th gens

I can't find anyone that has compared a base 5th gen an 4th gen. Everybody compares the SH, which has a different B pipe due to its longer header. Apparently if you want to use a 5th gen base catback on a 4th gen you will have to cut the B pipe and relocate one hanger on the muffler. The axle back portion appears to be 100% identical in terms of the bend geometry. Check out that link.
So, ya...With the right mods it should work. Just take it to a good exhaust shop

sivikvtec... i think ur link was intended to go to nexis's write up on AP.com, but if you lookin in the bolt on's section you can see that i posted some questions about that write up. i think he made a few mistakes in it so i was a bit confused. thats why i posted the question here.

i wanted to put a stock exhaust back on my 4th gen SI once, and I bought it from a dude who was selling a exhaust system from a 5th gen. I was skeptical as to whether it would work or not but it was only 50 bucks so i said what the hell i'll try it. so i did one night and took off the old exhaust and crap, only to find that the 5th cat back exhaust is a few inches longer. with modifications it could fit, you would just need to cut the pipe and reweld the flange at the new position. The bends in the system occur at the same place from 5th to 4th, but the 5th is a bit longer. So I said expletive it and drove without an exhaust for a day. gee that was fun. I also compared the mufflers and the 5th gen has two hangers at different places than the 4th (I forget exactly, but one had two in front and one in the front and one in the back). Also, the exhaust finishers don't mix and match for some reason even though they look identical.
cliffs:
doesnt fit the 4th gen SI
the "S" bend occurs at the same lengths
the muffler fits fine, exhaust hangers for it is at diff places
could be done with some modificiations at a muffler shop
exhaust finishers don't mix and match

urg i guess to clear up my question im goin to ask it straight forward.
well theres 2:
1) how does the base 5th gen exhaust differ from the SH 5th gen?
2) which requires less modification/more closely matches a 4th gen SI

ok cool ill be geting an SH then. im pretty excited to have a nice daul tip performance exhaust for my car. ive never really seen one on a 4th gen before.
Im 99% sure im getting a thermal classic, does anyone know if there are any other nice daul tip catbacks out there?
