going FROM obd1 TO obd2 (searched)
I searched and got almost 1000 results for the obd2 to obd1 conversion, and tried reading them to understand how to reverse the process but couldn't get a complete picture. My car is a 96 and has runs on a obd1 h22, well the guy I usually take my car to to get smogged is no longer in buisness sooo I was wondering why not just switch back over to obd2...
I know that obd2 uses 2 sensors and obd1 uses 1 but will my car still run on obc2 without installing that sensor?
If not, would I even be able to install that sensor on my engine?
If I wee to buy a 96 h22 (dont know the #) ecu would it the maps be close enough to my p13 to run without having problems?
Is this a ridiculous idea all together?
If anyone else has an idea of how i can get my 96 with an obd1 smogged i'd love to hear it

What year is the engine? I'm under the impression that it has to be at least as new as the car...so even if you make an old engine OBD2 they will still deem it illegal...

I don't think the emissions operator will know the difference between an H22a1 or H22a4.
Secondly, if you've reverted back to OBDI, and your chassis is OBDII, then they will try to connect to the emissions port and won't get any signal. If that happens, they will have to put it on the rollers and sniff the exhaust. Just make sure your tune is spot on and isn't spitting out fuel.

This guy's location says that he lives in Cali, not <insert normal place here>. He might get away with an old engine in a new chassis just because it's a H22 in a Prelude (and not a Civic, which is clearly the wrong engine) but he's not going to pass without an OBD2 computer.

The calafornia air resources board (C.A.R.B.) is the closest thing left to the **** regime. Thier pretty strict. Its not the engine code that worries me or even my tune, its the fact that they are going to try and get an obd2 reading because my VIN number will tell them its a 96.
the engine is a 1993 jdm h22
