Digital Speedometer – looking to purchase / any advise???
My car is without an instrument cluster and I was looking into a LCD type speedometer.
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations – maybe any issues you’ve had to overcome when installing these types of things?
I’ve seen some GPS units on http://www.summitracing.com – but they where $350+ seemed to be more for marine/boat application.
I’m looking for something that will just give me a “simple and large” digital read out.
Thanks in advance

Look for an Apex-i Rev/Speed meter or RSM. There is an older one with LCD segment deisplay that usually goes for around $75-ish on ebay, or the newer one that has OLED display for around double that price. I believe there are Imperial and Metric versions, so if you care, make sure you get the right one. They both measure speed, revs, trip meter, etc, with peak/hold, shift light (display flashes, not very useful) and other stuff. There is an add on G-Tech type acceleration meter, but I've never used it. It needs 4 wires to hookup, power, ground, tach and VSS. Very easy to install, and it works great, IMHO.
I remember a few years ago there was a company that had a HUD type speed display, but I think they went out of business.
For expensive stuff, go AIM MyChron.
