Default 0 gauge wire diameter size

Hello-

a quick search yielded ~1/3" diameter for 0ga wire through the AWG standards. Does this 1/3" carry across all audio wires?

I ask because I bought some 0ga off ebay, but the wire fit inside of a 2ga crimp terminal. I went to the local car store where they were selling 2ga wire and it looked to be the same size as my newly purchased 0ga... but looks can be decieving I suppose.

I measured my ebay 0ga and it was 1/3" in diameter, just for reference.

Any input?

You might have bought fake wire. It happens alot off of flea-bay. Most people buy 4 gauge wire only to recieve 8 gauge wire with a thick coating. If the deal seems to good it probably is.

well, like I mentioned... I looked up AWG and it said zero gauge has 1/3" of conductor. I just wanted to confirm if this was correct of if anyone had zero gauge laying around the shop they could measure.

I was expecting a thumb sized wire and recieved something more like a pinky

if you care to visit the auction, follow this link

The odd part about it also was I bought some zero gauge terminals from him, and the terminals themselves were larger in diameter that the zero gauge... which I thought was odd.

On another note - I am using thies wire to move my battery to the trunk. I dont have any major amps or caps in my system, would this still be suficcient?

Even if it's 2 AWG it will still be enough.
I have 4 for my second battery and it's worked fine for years....

here's a quick comparison - I don't have a tape measure handy, but odly enough I have 4 and 0/1

This is stinger 0/1 custom pro next to 4 ga custom pro, next to a standard sized chapstick

one of the keys is that manufacturers are free to use thicker insulation, but the conductor diameter for 0/1 should be about 1/3" - if you didn't get that, then you got screwed. 4ga is a touch smaller then my pinky finger (including insulation).

Website doesn't even tell you much about the wire. Doesn't tell you how many strands there are. If you're paying 1.XX + 7$ shipping for 1ft of 0ga, then you're better off buying it local for a lot cheaper then that. Local shops around here average price for some streetwires/stinger 0/1ga wire is 4$-5$ a ft. Or you could order off knukonceptz, I get my wire tomorrow I'll tell you how it is.

true that. i got 20 ft of 4 gauge wire off of ebay that included a fuse holder for $21 including shipping, it turned out to be 6 gauge wire but, still pretty good

Ebay is good, only if you shop smart though.

Well that puts me at ease... thats how big my 0ga is. I chose ebay because it was significantly cheaper that the Audio Corruption place near me which charges 5+ a ft.

Where else has some decent priced electronic stuff online?

that's true, but there are so many shady deals on ebay and the level of customer service is questionable at best....

enjoy

I prefer to buy my stuff through etailers that I trust and to buy brand name - this way you know you are getting quality when compared to guessing on the bay....as you can tell, I don't like ebay that much

I love ebay, but I'm a pretty smart buyer. Instead of paying 160$-200$ on my Stinger 0ga amplifier kit, I paid around 85$-90$ shipped. My knukonceptz 0ga arrives today, I'll tell you what I think of em when I get home.
