CHALLENGE! I have a 93 dx civic hatchback. How can I get the car under 2000lbs?
It has a/c, fyi. Can I get the car under 2000lbs and keep the a/c? Let me know whats up and my options on the weight thing! Individual weights of parts would help greatly!!!!!
Thanks fellas!
Thanks fellas!
lose the AC definately...rear seats, strip the trunk, maybe even consider removing the full interior except for driver and passenger seats.
What does the back seat and carpet weigh? Hell, what's all this stuff weigh? I'll just pick n choose what I want to take out lol.
You cant really pick and choose. If you want to be under 2000lbs Im betting youre going to have to sacrifice comfort.
its easy, just swap in one of those old 8 valvers, drain the fluid out of your shocks, run with half the recommended oil, and dont forget to take two lugs off each wheel!
seriously, just like the fly said, you have to give up something

i saw a one pice carbon fiber front end for eg's the other day at RPM in san diego, i picked that fuckr up and it was lighter than **** less than 10lbs im sure
RPM makes some nice shizzel tho.....
Funny. Did you read this thread yet?
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=150315
It lists all the base weights, and if you read it you'll find out all sorts of neato info, including:
You DX weighs 2178lbs. STOCK from the factory, BEFORE dealer installed ****.
That means it weighs 2178lbs. without:
1. A/C. Not a single 1992 hatch came with A/C. Not even the Si - dealer installed option.
2. Radio. Again it's a dealer-installed option.
3. Right side mirror. DX had only 1 from the factory.
4. Motor swap
Stock D-series motor has to be lighter than B-series
So, with all that said, you MUST remove the A/C if you want to even be back to STOCK weight. Lose the radio too
There's another thread that deals with all of the **** you can remove from your car. I'll link it too.
Here's a weight reduction thread for 1992-1995 hatches:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=169045
And an excerpt from it:
1. Tar. Your Si/DX has tar on the front and rear floorboards, and a good bit in the rear tub too. Dry ice works great to take the tar out. Crush the dry ice up and leave it on the tar for like 45minutes, then hit it with a hammer and chisel. This won't save much weight, but every little bit helps.
2. Firewall mat. What is that? It's a thick, heavy-*** mat that sits behind your dash and on the firewall. I'm sure it's for sound deadining and maybe for insulation, but when you ask for those things from a mat, it has to be heavy. You'll have to take the dash out, but you'll save some weight, right?
3. Airbag(s). Don't just pull out the steering wheel - there's an SRS computer behind the dash too, and a big-*** wiring harness and sensors. It adds up when put together. If you have the passenger bag, than you might want to make a dummy cover or get a 1992-1993 dash.
4. Knee bolster bar. There's a knee bolster bar behind the dash too. Wighs a few pounds, and doesn't appear to be a huge safety thing eother.
*5. Bumper supports. They are pretty heavy - one in the front and the rear.
6. Rear seats and all of the seatbelt stuff for them too. People yank out the rear seats but leave in the heavy seatbelt **** back there - why? If you really plan on keeping people from there, then delete the seat belts too, right?
7. Rear wiper motor. I have the Honda part #'s of the CX/VX plastic tabs that replace that rear wiper motor ****. Save some pounds y0!
I have a * by the 5 because this is something I personally will NOT do in the name of weight savings. They do help the car absorb impact, and if your car gets totalled because of them being gone, or that little 5mph bump really crushes your car because they weren't there, then so what if you saved a few lbs?
These are just a few things you could do. I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of any right now.
This was for his Si hatchback, but the DX has most of the same features that can be removed too.
I'm hoping that my CX tips the scales at 1980lbs. or so even with it's B18C5 and 4-wheel disc brakes
My car will be nice and noisy, but very, very light!

So if you can get 45+% off those front 1pc carbon fiber kits, send the info my way. I'd pick one up.

rid the splash guards too..every little bit or weight helps in the end
then carbon fiber everything u can
then carbon fiber everything u can
This site shows a VX weigth reduction http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/thelist.html
TRY THIS-
fiberglass doorskins, fiberglass rear hatch, carbon fiber race hood.
aluminum bodied Zeal suspension with lightweight springs
<-- not cheap.
lose all interior stuff possible.
light wheels, like 14" Volk CE28N or 13" alloys (like HX or is it VX rims?)
no radio or speakers.
fiberglass drivers seat (my sparco ultras weigh 12lbs each!)
lose the airbag and stock steering wheel.
hows that?

DRIVEN a 91 CRX SI weighs 2,174 a 93 civic dX weighs 2,174 so there is no point in buying a crx cause its also harder to put a GSR motor or a R motor in a crx so stay with that hatch. i think that hatc's have way ore potential then CRX's
yeah but 88 crx hf are less than 2000 pounds from the factory(1800 if i'm correct). if i could find one i would be all over it. i had an 88 si and they weigh 2000 from the factory, which ain't bad.
I have a 95 DX which has the passenger side air bag and weighs a little more than a 92 hatch.
With no a/c, no carpet, no backseats, no trunk stuff, no rear panels, and no center console, my car weighed in at 2075lbs. Hope that helps..
btw: billy is gayer than liberace.
