Looking at a B16 CRX Need some help
Well a kid local to me is selling a 91 CRX Si with a B16 and S1 tranny...Ireally want it because it is a fairly clean shell, mine was hit and repaired before i bought it but it was a great deal, now i am looking for something a little nicer to fix up and swap all my stuff over to and this weems to be the best in the area...
I have no experience physically working on a B16...Its been sitting for a while but he was able to start it up afte we charged up the battery a bit but it sounds like a golf cart, said he was driving along and it just started to run like crap, he saud it is giving a code 7 which is TPS, when my LS was giving that code it just idle really high and up and down a bit, this seemed to idel fairly normal...
I'm think the timing might just need adjusted but I'm also condered it might be something else, just looking for opinions on it for the price it isn't a bad deal even if the motor isn't good but i was hoping atleast the head would be ok...As stated above i maninly want the shell and also the tranny and he has a ton of parts inculding a real WW mugen kit which is nice for my front mount
I guess just looking for some suggestions, it litterally sounds like a golf cart

check the cam timing...if it is off, reset it and do a compression test to see if he bent any valves...if he did, then i would take the head off and make sure that the insides of the motor is clean and he didnt break a valve and destroy the cylinder or score the cylinder wall...
take off the valve cover ,and check if it is nice and shiny inside or dull and gold/brown...idealy u want it shiny or just a little golden...anything brown isnt even worth it, unless u really do just want the body and its a killer deal...drive the car...take it to 8k and make sure every gear shifts without grinds....also take a look for leaks, check out the oil, take a look at the wiring to make sure its properly done, check tire pressure...look at the body at different angles in the sunlight to try to find bonda work,of course im sure you already looked for rust in the rockers, quarter and rear...you know all the regular stuff youd look at when buying any used car
edit* i forgot to say usually when motors start to sound all weird and have poor drivability the culprit is cam timing...its always the first thing i look at and its usually the source of the prob...late

Cool, thanks I knw all the rgular used car things but wasn't sure about the B16 sounding like a golf cart, figured it was timing...but i was also concerned if it did drop a valve if it would even start, i mean it did start right up once the battery had some juice in it and idle fine, I think i will pick it up and see if i can get it to run right, if not i'll just ditch the B16, thanks...matt

oops i feel retarded...lol...i totally forgot u said it starts and runs ok...yeah man more than likely its just off a tooth...id most definitely do a compression test on it once everything is reset just to make sure...if in fact the head is good...ditch that shitty block and go turboLSV

when u say its ran like crap do u mean bogging and spudering, because thats kind of common with b16a the fuel pump sometimes has troble keeping up. mine boggs intell u floor it but i think i have a bad injector as well. if u did by the car then get the b16a running good and sell it for 800 or somake some money. or do an lsvtec turbo in one of my magenizes i have theres a lsvtec pushing 400 hp and its a daily driver. it would be a beast. or keep the motor just in case something ever goes wrong with ur ls turbo. for back up.

I didn't drive it yet, the guy is getting out of cars and is pretty much selling me all of his cars and parts, the car itself is full of spar parts he started it up to show me it ran...to me it honestly just sounds like it is off a tooth and as i said before i am more interested in the shell but i will get it and get the B16 running and see how it is but I think my current LS-T project is going to make me toss the B16
On a side note i was doing some research on the S1 tranny looks like it came in 90-91 crx and integras would it be similar to the 90-91 LS input shaft? so i could rock my same clutch? or is it even worth me swapping from my a1 LS tranny to the S1 B16 tranny?

the s1 is going to have shorter gears that the ls tranny. u'll wont to keep the long ls gears for the turbo. right.

yeah you can rock the same clutch...yes it is very much worth swappin over to the b16 tranny...but i would still run the car on the track with the ys1 and then try the s1 just to check out the time difference...well thats just me cuz at my shop its easy to do that kinda stuff...but if you plan on just doing it in the backyard id rock the s1 from the get go

then sell the ls and s1 find a Y1 lsd shortest gears, i have a y1 tranny but the diff. is broke in it. so i'm re building it. i'm rockin a ys1 right now and 3rd gear is gutless compare to the y1 i have good power in 1 st and 2nd but 3rd just doesn't pull as hard as the y1 plus the lsd thats great. my buddys stock ls in a 88 hatch ran a 14.6 with a y1. now its an fully built N/a lsvtec beast probly in the low 13's now.

BS it did to all y1 are lsd! jdm Y1 lsd. ur wrong ys1 only some came out with lsd. all y1 if u look in the axle holes the bar is not there. Y1 is JDM LSD Cable tranny.
very few YS1's are lsd.
