I'm lookin to get a new camera in the near future, right now I have a Panasonic DMC-LC50 point and shooter. I'm lookin to get something a lil closer to an SLR, but not quite cause I'm not ready to make that jump. I've been looking at the Canon S3 is and Panasonic FZ7. Both have good reviews on http://www.dpreview.com but I wanna see if any of you have experience or other suggestions.
I like the Canon's flip screen and it seems to be a lot faster at focusing, and has a better macro focus as well. The Panasonic is about $100 cheaper, has a lithium battery, and appears to be a lil sharper.

both of em are good. lieca lens on the panasonic make it a bit clearer. but the canon has a digicII processocer which make it a bit fast in focus, zoom, startup, and increase batterey life. it depends on what your gunna be doing mostly if there is gunna be more actions shots "rolling shots" things like that or more "set up style shots" action shots i would go with the canon S3 IS. but more like set up shots i would chose the panasonic. but there is also the option of the S2 IS little less megapixel but just as good.
i sell camera's so just check it out.
your welcome.

Very good information...thank you. I do want to take some action shots like at race events and what not so I think the canon will be better for me then. I take it when you say "set up shots" you're talking about taking portit style pics of people or objects.
More insight is welcome

by "set up shots" is more like tripod based self timer shots. that's not all the panasonic is good for it "can" do action shots just the canon would be better at it. as far as the sony h2 or h5. i would pass on those not nearly as good a camera as the canon. frame rates are slow and has those damn sony memory sticks which are more expensive cards then any other. i would stick to the canon S2 or S3 IS.

I have the FZ5 and here are a few of my pics. The lense is dirty and when I get back to the states in a few months I'm getting it cleaned. You can tell this by the moving shot.

i have the FZ7. and i like it.
by the way, do anyone know where i can buy some wide angle lens for FZ7 ?? (except for EBAY!)

Alright...thnx for clearing that up for me. Yeah...thats one thing I didn't like about the sony is that I'd have to buy new memory. I think I'm still leaning toward the S3 like you suggested...there is something about the way it is that makes it stand out to me.

Thanks for the pics...I like the second one you posted...it really shows the sharpness for the lines.
Someone suggested the Panasonic FZ30 to me...but I think it's a lil out of what I want to spend for right now. I read the FZ50 is coming out, so I'm guessing the prices will come down a lil bit on the FZ30.
Thanks again to everyone that's givin me some feedback...it's helping soldify my decision.
