Top of the range header + cat or Mid range header + no cat
Hey guys,
Was just having a bit of a debate with my friend over what combo would flow better..
In a real world example ..
lets say ..
we have a SMSP or ANR header with a cat
or a
Toda or Spoon header with no cat..
Which one would you think .. would flow better
and why?
my thoughts are the deleted cat would flow better..
since the max CFM of a SMSP would be limited by the MAX CFM of the cat
while the max CFM of a toda would be limited by nothing but its own design?

Yes. It's funny because I was thinking this same thing.
I had a hytech header on my car before with a carsound cat.
Because of ground clearance mostly, I switched to a toda header and still have the carsound cat. Mid range is so much strong but top end feels like it's more restrictive. So I have a testpipe I'll try when I get a chance to install it to see how it compares to they hytech. But from the current "FEEL" of driving it, the new setup definately feels more restrictive than the old one. I'll do the testpipe install soon to see, but if somebody else knows, this may make me install the test pipe faster

i think when choosing whether to go testpipe or cat, it depends on what you want
cat will give better midrange while the testpipe will give better topend
i chose testpipe because when you rip it, you never go below vtec while switching so i need all the topend i can get

Yes, hytech production. Toda definately has better midrange, but top end feels restricted. (Remember hytech is for built motors mostly, mine is a stock jdm itr with I/H/E)

This is very true. In the end, it is about how you drive your car. I don't redline all the time and daily drive the car every day, so mid range pull is so much better for me. Installing the test pipe is my way of trying to get the type end feel that I saw with the hytech, but even though the toda does not feel that bad up top. Close to the same feel, but a definate feeling of restriction that was not there with the hytech.
Again, all how it FEELS to me

Why not just install the test pipe when you take your car to the track, since you clearly have no need for the miniscule additional amount of hp on your way to work?

Sorry...just had to echo the same feeling.
I am guilty of being catless on the street before and the stench that circulates gets on your clothes, your skin, your hair into your LUNGS and gives you a crazy headache (it does for me)...it's definitely not worth it for your health, others behind you or in your car and of course the environment....
