Default Painting Civic Grille

How do you go about stripping the paint off a grille? I would think Air Craft Remover would probably just mess up the grille.

Is there something safe to use on plastic to strip the paint off of it or can I just sand it off with a reasonable grit of sand paper like, 400 grit or so?

tape it off and paint it trim black.
you'll never get it back to raw plastic without doing the whole bumper.

edit: clean it real well first then scratchpad it with a grey scotcbrite or sand with 400 grit, then tape it off and paint it.

get some plastic safe paint stripper. walmart probably even sells it. if not look in your yellow pages for auto body supply stores, and they will have some for sure.

It's silver and I want it black. The paint on it right now isn't in the best condition.

then i would just sand out the imperfections with 320, then go over it all with 400 and paint it. if you go down to raw plastic anywhere spray some spray can flex primer on those spots.

Would I not need to primer the whole thing anyways?

no not unless your down to raw plastic.
if you strip with stripper you will need to spray primer on the whole thing though...more work than needed.

as long is it sanded well with 400 and there are no chips or anything your all good to paint it.

Ok seems like the guy who had this before did a shitty *** job.

Sanded off all the paint since there were some deep scuffs from either a really rough grit or who knows what.

Just need to scuff it now with 400 grit then primer, base and clear.

This thing is pissing me off...I don't get why this isn't coming out good this time.

Searched google and seems like I have "tiger striping" and orange peel now. This is all before clear coat has been layed down.

So how do I paint it where it I won't get "tiger striping" and orange peel anymore?

I've painted this thing like 4 times lol.

Well this is like my 4th or so time painting, trying diff ways and such. But after every coat I spray, it comes out all spotty.

if your letting it dry between coats you need to sand it again. i was under the impression you were using a base coat/clear coat.
