Default Tranny for track car

My 98 civic dx tranny has been popping out of gear when in 2nd. Seems to do it whenever in the high revs and i give a lift and then get back into it full throttle, it wont be there it happeneed at the hill climb this weekend a few times and really upset the car. How much would you guys pay for an EX tranny. Charlotte dude wants $450... Karl says i can get a whole parts car for that doesnt act up on the street only when i have the stickies on and autoXing. any help or suggestions? I replaced the motor mounts, and put some new tranny fluid in.

What did you replace the mounts with? ex tranny, how many miles? I'd look into building a modified tranny, theres info on here for it. Low miles the ex will go for a lot more then your dx. Or pull yours apart and figure out whats wrong with it.

I replaced the stock mounts with hasport mounts. the car will be running H5. I dont think i want to mess with the internal parts of the old tranny seems like more trouble, plus i wouldnt know what im doing anyway.

Do the hasporst keep it from rocking?? I have the poly ones and they give you the fronts and backs... not sure on the has, i've seen the top ones and i know they are beefy as hell. Just trying to rule out the engine rocking and taking you out of gear. Prolly wanna head to tech for that one. If that ex is in good shape, i'd go for it, maybe try and knock him down a tad.

the motor is not moving one bit. I've had a few people explain different theories.

it probabaly wont help, but what about the poly shift stabilizer kit from energy? its about $15 and helped the 'feel' of my shifts....but not sure if it would help in your case.

he also has those bushings.
I think its the syncros, its only second gear and only when he drives it.

anything more then $300 for a low mileage EX tranny is a waste of money. consider that with a shop discount you can buy ALL the bearings and seals for your tranny for that much. rebuilding the tranny is NOT hard work either. if you've got an FSM and a clean bench to work on, you can do it in a weekend. hardest part is getting the snap ring off the bearing to open the case and getting it back on when you reassemble.

I have a "squeeze handle-forks open" set of pliers, and the end has a raised crosshatch which seems to bite the ring VERY nicely, and rest against the edge just perfect. Ive only had it slip a few times, after a few dis/reassembles, its no big deal.

I can get you one for $225. semi-local, and you can watch me assemble it and count the teeth if you'd like. I don't have any ex cases, so it would go into a vx case.

not to worry about the aluminum forks, as IMO (and mista bone's) they're superior than the "stronger steel" forks found in the 96-00 trans.

Probably illegal for an H5 car and very likely illegal for IT..

okay, i have dx/vx/hx/cx/ex and zc gears whatever he wants. Even a d16y8 case. The aluminum forks break, steel ones bend. And they offer no superior shifting. whatever he wants! update / backdate rule cx/vx/ case is the same as a dx case. whatever!

With that logic I guess I can't run a d16y8 headgasket on my d16z6 even though they offer no performance value.
