need advice on shocks: teins vs. tokico
well, i can either pick up a used set of Tein BASIC for $475 (it was probably ridden on around 15k miles) or a brand new set of Tokico ILLUMINA shocks for around $340. they will be put on my 01 gsr that are currently riding on stock shocks with Tanabe springs, lowered 2"/1.8".
i believe that the basic's aren't adjustable while the illumina's are. are the tein's that much more superior over the tokico's?

I have illuminas, they're adjustable and I would never buy them again. After about 2 months, the "5" setting (firmest) was about as firm as the 3 was originally. Now the ride is just soft and I have to keep it on 5 all the time. I bought the shocks/struts/lowering springs for $420 all together as a combo, everything's Tokico so it's not like I mismatched something and that's what caused the shocks to wear out.

get the tokicos and get new springs. I recommend TEIN S-Tech or Eibach Pro or Sportline kit, depending on ur lowering height preference. u can also stick w/ ur Tananbe ones, but i would go w/ TEIN or Eibach over Tanabe for springs. Its up to you. Hope u got the help u needed. Good luck!
i used to have tokico 5 way adjustables...upgraded to tein flex and its a night and day difference...tein just makes overall better products than tokico...with the tein basic ur not really getting much performance its just like the tokico...but if u go to higher end stuff...ull see where the difference is...Tein>Tokico...ANYDAY!
