I wonder if there lines installed behind the dash.... if the car did not come w/ it in the first place...(from factory)..now im starting to look for the parts..does any other civic or hatch use the same parts so my search can be easier..and what other problems would i run in to...my crx is completely stock w/ 261k miles on the original motor..i still get 40mpg highway and about 33-35mpg city...i love the car but i need a/c ...

 

The AC systems for all CRXs and Civics 88-91 are the same. The only difference is that some cars have Matsushita AC Compressors and some have Sanden AC Compressors.

For under the dash, you will need to buy an Evaporator. The evaporator goes right next to the heater blower. It will replace the air duct that you have in there now. There is also some wiring and a relay that goes under the dash too.

You best bet is to find someone who just took their AC system out and is selling the whole kit (they usually go from $50 to $150). When you reassemble the AC lines, just make sure you put in new oring gaskets and also get a new dryer. You may need to convert from R12 to R134 unless you know how to source R12 freon.
