new typer motor...doesn't feel all that stong
i just put in a 97 itr motor and trans into my 1997 civic ex and my buddies si's seem faster vtec's stonger and everything. im using a jdm ecu and the engine runs good except for idle right now. i ran my buddies si from a roll and he killed me wtf any answers???? im gonna get it tuned with an apexi vafc but idk im pissed
thats all i can think of too...but its from hmotors i think they do that before they send it out steve's pretty good
yea 97 civic ex swapped with a jdm 97 itr motor and ecu so obd-IIa all good, does the ecu have to be grounded (bolted to metal) cause i just have it sitting on the carpet right now idk, it almost feels like vtec isn't kicking in all the way or not at all. its quick and real strong, but it should get way stronger with vtec than it does. but im stumped
You know, i have the same problems too. I have a JDM ITR motor in my R and i swear it feels weaker than the past ITRs that i have driven (i have had plenty of seat time in ITRs). I am thinking it's the JDM ECU OR cams (easy to take out to turn easy profits). I am going to try and get a Kenji chipped P28 in the near future and try it out.

take some motor shots (side and top views). i wanna see something. i did run into some trouble with my car cause the vtec wasnt even running at all or kicking in. i had to resolve it with a p28 chipped ecu
yea its gotta be the ecu cause theres vtec but my buddies si's vtec pulls way harder...i mean this is an itr motor it should rip like hell, i just don't know why the jdm ecu would cause problems.? how much in a kenji ecu?
it could be...like the jdm ecu didnt work for my car. i have 2 jdm p73 itr ecus and they both didnt work. plus the vtec silenoid were different.
this sounds like alot of butt dyno comparisons..
is there a nearby dyno you could go do 3 runs? that would tell you very quickly how healthy it is..

Increase your fuel pressure. MY JDM ITR was slow as hell until I increased the fuel pressure and it ran like a raped ape!
Quick and easy way is to put a little restriction on the fuel return line (zip tie/ needle nose vice grips). Just make sure you dont completely block it off...
Mine was a 98 DX with a 98 JDM ITR swap.

Hey Risingsun97, before you buy ecus and stuff, find out what is causing it not to work properly first, especially 2xxbucks ecu you could of get it check out at a shop maybe free anyways
you said you feel like "your vtec isnt kickin in"...Trust me you will feel vtec kicking in especially when Vtec crosses over in an R. You might be decieved by the Torque it has, so im taking you may not have vtec if the b16 was spankin you.
Most Jdm Motor when they come The TPS gone bad, check the sensors, see if you have check engine light. if you do pull a code.

there plenty of other ways to raise fuel pressure other than crimping the line.
rising_son97
- did you add a knock sensor wire?
- what header, cat, exhaust setup do you have?
- check your fuel pressure, you should have between 38-45 with the vacum line on
- are you using the stock civic fuel pump? you might want to upgrade to an interga pump or walbro 190.

JDM itr's dont have a vtec pressure switch. it shouldnt be a problem if your using a stock jdm r ecu.
i usualy drill and tap the vtec soleniod and install a pressure switch. then add the wire the engine and chassis harness and wire it to the ecu. that way vtec will always work wether you use a jdm or us ecu.

Thats a pain in the *** considering it is easy as hell to bypass using a wire.

hmm ok. sure you could do that.
it takes all of 10minutes to run a wire to the ecu.
either way will work. id prefer the factory way, and make the switch functional. but to each his own.

i have a check engine but three shops couldn't even pull up a code, it said linking error on the code checker thingy, im at work now so after work im gonna have to take a look at it

You have a check engine light and dont know what it is and were wondering why your car didnt seem right?

Probably the reason why its running like shiet!

Here is a great question that never got answered...
I can't believe your out racing with the CEL on. It sounds to me like your not done with the swap. Just because the car starts doesn't mean it's ready to go out & drive/race. The ECU is looking for all the sensors on your new motor. Some of those sensors were not present on your EX motor. Since you have a 96-00 Civic I assume you used your stock EX engine harness to get the motor in. Did you do all the wiring properly? Did you use "shielded" wire for the knock sensor? If you didn't, EM interference can give the ECU false knock signals that will trigger retarded ignition timing over & over again...
