DC JDM 4-1?
so do you need to take out your cat for this to work? my friend told me you did and it dosn't make any sence that a US CO. would produce something illegal for US residents to use?
should I stop worrying about this and look at other headers?
I dunno I'm confused?

Yes, you will need to remove your stock cat, but you can still be legal if you purchase an aftermarket cat such as Random or Carsound.
Otherwise, a testpipe is a popular alternative (and cheaper, too)
You're going to see the best gains from a 'JDM' sized header. This means a 2.5" collector. With any JDM header you will need to ditch the stock cat.
But JDM size isn't by any means the only possibility. I had a Comptech 4-2-1 header that bolts right up to the stock cat, and on a stock ITR, it did pretty well vs. the "JDM" competition.

You either have to buy a cat with a 2.5 outlet (carsound cat from SMS) or get a testpipe with a 2.5 outlet. The DC JDM header is technically only for "offroad use" but inspectors or the law will probably not notice. By the way did you know that starting May 1st in DFW counties there is a new emission test coming that will cost a boat load more and is much stricter. If I was you I would get my car inspected before I put the JDM header on.
