what can be done to a stock gsr to compete with a type r???
budget wise and not having to redo the block... here's the way to go:
on your 2000 GSR, I'd convert to obd1 ECU, CTR cams, cam gears, header, Skunk2 Manifold..and tune it.. it should be equivalent to the ITR and even faster.

Here are my mods and my car can stay with a R
Comptech Ice box
JDM 4-1 type R headers
RSR exhaust
Civic Type R cams
DC Sport cam gears
AEM pullies
Carsound high flow cat
all dyno tuned of course
A friend of mine has the same parts except he has the Skunk manifold, Chipped OBD I ECU, test pipe, bored Type R throttle body, and he beats Type R's he does the 1/4 in the low 14's

i've never raced a type r but do u think i can keep up with one?
i got 95 gsr so i think its obd1 already. dc header, tanabe racing medalion exhaust, akimoto short ram intake w/ k&n filter. i doubt i could tho...and i dont plan on doin ne more mods. its fast enough for me.

Slow&Furious,
If you are driving a '95 GSR with just I/H/E, there is no way you will keep up with a stock Type R unless the driver is terrible at stick. If all you want to do is keep up with an R, I suggest cams, cam gears, V-AFC and Skunk2 intake manifold. If you have all of this combined with your exisitng mods and you have it tuned on a dyno, you should not only keep up with ITR's but sometimes beat them. (It's gonna be $$$$ though). Good luck.

theres not just one difference when it comes to an R vs. GSR...there are many, including suspension, body, interior, exterior, weight, etc. A better flowing head, higher compression, different vtec engagement point, higher redline, are some of the engine differences. Also whats the point of beating some guy in a type R w/ no mods? the driver is probably gonna be in his 40s.
Why shoot for beating a car? I'm shooting for a timeslip. You could get some old lady who doesnt know how to drive and beat her the way your car is.
I race Type R's all the time...
Ya win some, you lose some...
Of course my races are at sanctioned course events on. The Yellow ones are the slowest!

PS YES you can develop a GSR that could kick an ITR's ***...
PPS Cars don't win races, Drivers do! The Car is the Tool that is just along for the ride...
