i have both of these cd players just laying around the house.
cant decide which one to put it in my car.

Alpine over a Sony any day.

 

Ditto both the above, although an older unit the Alpine is a way better HU 4x23W RMS, [EIA-517 standard] Bass Engine, dual preouts, [one switchable to a sub out, W/sub level control] even without a sub or amp(s) with some attention to the install of 4 speakers, [maybe I should say "with lots of attention to the install of 4 good speakers"] you can have a pretty good sounding system.

Now I do not believe the CDX-M610 was one of Sony's Xplod line, I think, [and if I'm wrong forget what I am about to say] it predates Xplod and if that's the case then the Sony is not that bad a HU, [Sony car didn't turn into crap until they introduced Xplod, name says it all] it has some things the Alpine does not, not much and probably nothing you need anyway.

Before anyone jumps in and tells me. yea but it still has the same amount of power as the Alpine at 4x23W RMS, [because I brought it up with the Alpine] I will point out that Alpine's 4x23W RMS is w/0.8% THD and Sony's is w/5% THD.

With proper installation, [speakers] SQ, in general, would be good with either HU, [again, not if the Sony is an Xplod unit] but side by side the Alpine would outperform the Sony in most. if not all, ways. 94
