Need help with wheels
just picked up an 05 accord lx. the factory steelies and covers just are not cutting it for me. I need wheels, can anyone give me some ideas on wheels? I am not sure of the offset or anything like that. I know they are 15" wheels though. Am new to the honda world.. Thanks
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,
Welcome to the Honda world!
Assuming your LX is a 4-cylinder, it came from the factory with 205/65-15 tires. There's no reason you have to replace the steelies and covers with 15" wheels; the size is strictly a matter of personal preference. Here are wheel and tire sizes to fit your car, depending on how big you want to go:
15" - 15x6 or 15x6.5 wheels with 205/65-15 tires
16" - 16x6.5 or 16x7 wheels with 205/60-16 or 215/55-16 tires
17" - 17x7 wheels with 215/50-17 tires
18" - 18x7 or 18x7.5 wheels with 215/45-18 tires
The proper offset depends on the width of the wheels, and as you can see, that depends on what diamater wheels you get. As for choosing a diameter, there are some practical advantages to smaller wheels and tires. They're a lot less expensive (both the wheels and the tires). They usually weigh less (which means better performance). And they are less susceptible to damage from potholes. The main advantage of the larger wheels and tires is looks, and that's a matter of personal preference and opinion. If you still want the looks of the larger wheels and tires, and you're willing to live with the practical downsides mentioned here, then go ahead; otherwise, consider smaller wheels, or something in between. Personally, I think that 17" is a great size for your car (although it's a bit big for smaller cars like Civics and Integras).
As for wheel styles, that too is very much a matter of personal opinion. Check out all the styles on the websites of the biggest sellers of wheels, such as the Tire Rack (where you can see a picture of how each of their 124 different wheels looks on YOUR CAR) and Discount Tire. Also look through the forums here on h-t.com (like the Accord forum) for photos people have posted of their cars, to see how other wheels look.
Let us know if you have additional questions, including any about what kind of tires to get as well.

You should keep your eyes open for a set of 04+ TL 17x8 wheels. I see them in the classifieds here ( rl/tl forum and hondamarketplace.com) from time to time. The tire size might throw off your speedo though.

I see em for 500 all the time on hondamarketplace.com. Also try craigslist. They go for pretty cheap because the 18" A SPec wheel is in much more demand. Some other wheels to keep an eye out for: TSX, CL-S/TL-S, Accord V6 wheels.
