Default hood won't open

Hello everyone,

I've got an 89 hatch that has been sitting for some time. I was able to get it running barely and now I need to do some service. The problem is the hood will not pop. I can pull the inside latch all the way back but it will not realease. I can get my hand under the front and pop that lever but the hood is obviously still held down. What is the trick here?

I've tried tugging on the steel cable with pliers but it did nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i need to get this car done and give it to my brother as he is going away to school.

Thanks in advance.

cliff notes:

hood won't pop. Tried a few things, what is teh trick to getting the half moon lock open.

take your front bumper off.. and pry or push the hood lever and that should do the trick... but you might consider buying a new hood lever lock thing

Is this a common problem? Where is a good place to get a new lever? what part should i replace, the whole deal or just the cable?

not really a common problem... im thinking your hood lever thing maybe ceased... if your cable is still good... i would only replace that new lever..

my dad had the same problem. If the cable isnt the problem. Then you can do this.
First you have to be 2 to do this.
One must be holding the switch to open the hood at full.
The other gives a little nudge to the hood on top of where the opening system is placed.

When it was open i unscrewed the holding screw wich has the a spring around it.

Then my dads hood started to work as normal.
