What do I need for A/C in my 91 SI (ZC)
Searched but came up with nada. I have a 91 CRX si (model comes with AC) with a DOHC ZC. I bought the car with the engine installed so I dont have any of the A/C parts. Will the system out of another 91 bolt onto my engine? Exactly what will I need to buy?? Thanks in advance!!
Your best bet would be to find a CRX, with intact A/C, which you can take the whole A/C out of. If the system is still sealed, meaning when you open one of the lines, the system is still pressurized, even a small amount, then everything you take off will probably be Ok.
The easisest way to do this to pull the front bumper and the cowl cover. Then disconnect and remove the hoses. I'd suggest taking some pictures before you dismantle anything, so you have a reference to work with.
-remove the hoses on the front of the car, keep.
-remove the condensor on the front of the car. Keep
-remove the radiator, don't keep.
-remove the two radiator/condensor fans, keep.
-remove remainig hoses from compressor, to firewall, keep.
-remove a/c drier-filter-receiver, keep, for reference.
-remove a/c compressor bolt's, remove compressor, keep.
-remove a/c bracket 7 bolt's, keep.
-remove the wiring to fan's, dryer, relay's, compressor, keep.
-remove glove box, don't keep
-remove evaporator, keep, under the dashboard.
-remove all relay's, wiring, switch's from under dash, connected to A/C, keep.
-remove a/c on/off switch, keep.
Get new replacement for all of the o'ring's. You need A/C o'rings.
Get new filter/dryer assembly
Get PAG oil, to put into the compressor, if your going to put in R134 refrigerant.
Add new oil to compressor, reassemble.
You should keep every opening in the A/C system plugged or covered with something to keep dust and dirt out. You can by rubber plugs in various sizes at reasonably good hardware stores.
Reassemble, get evacuated, filled and run.
Their are some really good instructions on diy evacuating and filling, already posted on Honda Tech.
