Default Tires/Rim Blows up

I'm driving a 91 integra and I got some 17's rims with brand new tires on it and after a week or so, the passenger front side blew out on me on the freeway...

I wasn't mad, but a little confused... cause the tires were brand new kuhmo..

We'll i jacked up the car and took off the tires and examined the blew out.. It's on the inner side of the tire that looks like it got cut or slashed..

So I threw my spare on.. went to work. Drove home.. bought new tires on it.

A week later, the rear passenger side blew the same freaking way.

So I'm thinking to myself, It can't be the tires that's causing it to blow, they're BRAND NEW. So then I'm thinking if 91 Integra's should be on 17s or not?

Rims were Brand new, tires were brand new kuhmos...

Alignment is 100% fine.... No butterflying what so ever....

I'm just clueless at this time.. I'm thinking about taking the rims and selling it and just buy new tires for my 15's steelies... at this point I rather sport the Steelies than the 17's..

are you sure your rims are 17inchs or 17.5 inches that can cause new tires to blow up because you bought tires for 17 inch but the rim is 17.5 inches

make sure that there is No rub at all. its also possible that something is goin going on with your suspension, or steering, and its causing it to rub and rip

205/40-17 is the proper tire size for an Integra with 17" wheels. The tire size is not the problem.

My guess is the same as DC4_2nr - that your tires are coming into contact with your suspension or something on your car. This can happen if the wheels are not the proper offset, so that they position the tire too close to your car, rather than pushed out where the 15" wheels position the tires. (I say it's too close because you mentioned that the inside sidewall was slashed/worn away.) So the tires are coming into contact because you have wheels with the wrong offset.

You can correct this by getting different wheels with the proper offset. (Remember, the proper offset depends on the width of the wheel; just because your stock wheels have an offset of +xx mm, doesn't mean that's the proper offset for any other set of wheels, if they're not the same width.)

If you insist on using these 17" wheels, you can get spacers or hub adapters to move the wheels out away from the car. If you use spacers, make sure you have at least six full turns on the lug nuts (seven is even better); otherwise, you will need to get longer studs too.

Go back to the steelies until you get this figured out. Don't just keep driving on those wheels the way they are...

When you pull the rim off the car look for any marks where the tire has made contact with anything. When I put on brand new tires I get a slight run at full lock.. but that goes away after 1k-2k miles.

Just enough time for half your sidewall to disappear.

Definately sounds like a clearance issue.

I agree. And the fact that it happened in both the front and the rear, right after switching to a different set of rims with the proper size tires for the car, makes me think it's caused by the improper offset of the wheels (rather than any kind of problem with the suspension itself, which might show up on one axle but not both).
