So im about to start a job where all i will be doing is driving.
Do you think that with this setup, i can be capable of reaching 25+ MPG?
obd0
PM5 Ecu
DPFI manifold
z6 exhaust header
d15b8 (8 valves) long block
si tranny
oem si sclutch
short shifter.
I can go with the HF tranny, but then it would be slower than a geo. heh.
So what do you guys think?
this is on a 1990 honda civic hatch BTW

25mpg?! Why such a low goal? I easily hit 35-38 freeway mpg in my Si and I drive it hard. This is my setup:
90 Civic Si hatchback
OBD0 SOHC ZC = D16A6
everything is stock except the muffler and the crappy ebay suspension
I have a lot of mods in mind, and judging from how I developed my EG, I don't expect mileage to suffer one bit.
Clutch and short shifter wont affect mileage.

That's a shitty set up. Check out http://www.gassavers.org for some good ideas. You'll have serious airflow issues with that intake, besides, it sucks. And 25 mpg should be easy with anything.

i think 25 MPG can be easily reached with a 1990 CIVIC, anything that light, unless your carrying another car, ahhaha, should get OVER 25 MPG, i use to have a S13 240sx , now that is a big engine 2.4 litter, and it ran funny, it bogged and over heated sometimes, and i still got 30 MPG on the highway or more, and around 20 21 MPG city, oh yeah, and it had a dirty O2 sensor that made it run rich. and well, yeah starting to get sad about my car problems, anyway i think youll easily reach 25 MPG, DANG I GET BAD LUCK WITH CARS
I get around 33-35 mpg average with my Si on the Interstate (SOHC ZC/D16a6 + Si tranny) going like...80-85 with the sunroof open. Revving at 4k rpms/driving hard at the flow of traffic. Only downside is everytime I go on a trip down to SoCal I need to re-adjust my valves.
for driving hard/revving high.

28 town/ 35-38 MPGs highway on my 130HP DOHC ZC running a PM6. The d15b8 is rated for over 40 given the right ECU
edit: and with the DPFI and said ECU, you should get that, if not higher

wow did not know this...usually all the people with b16's swear by their shitty 26-27mpg average..maybe its cuz the way we drive...and i guess depends on the final drive you got with your b16...with my s1-shitty final drive i average 29 MAX driving like a saint..but good to know b16's can hit 30-35..ish

only differance between a HF and SI tranny is the final drive

everything is different except 1st gear. I have the HF 5th gear in mine, zc 1-4 and ex final drive, i get about 28 in town and 44-50 highway depending how i drive. this is with a supercharger too.
I have a stock DOHC ZC with a DX trans (soon to be ZC 1-4, HF 5th, and Si final drive) and I get no less than 35 city. I've never really done a highway only tank, but doing 65 over about 2 hours once, I got about 43.5 mpg.

If your Civic only gets 25mpg, you should consider it as a symptom that something is wrong. I'd be very disappointed if either of my cars ran that bad.
I don't have any experience with the carbuereted engines though. I would never rock a carbueretor anyway.

Nope. HF's are completely different.
Now a DX and Si are the same. DX just has a 3.88 final drive, Si has a 4.25.

I'm not sure I'd prase it that they are completely different. Some of the gear's are a little different, but the primary difference is the final gearing through the differential. The HF is around 2.98, which is a lot lower than the DX and SI.
However the transmission's themselves are completely interchangeable, in the cable unit's. You can fit an HF, DX or SI in place of one or the other.
