Smoke from vtec ?
Ive heard vtec often will shoot black smoke but yesterday as i left my friends house i hit vtec through 3 gears and later on my friend said the cloud of smoke was very large. He said you could just see the outline of my car pretty much from around 250 yards away. Is that much smoke normal ?
Why would an exhaust leak make smoke? Anyway, do you know how to run a compression test? If not, search. It's fairly simple and a compression tester is only $40 at Advance
had it checked a few months back and it was 150 across all 4...alittle low but according to the manual its still within spec and numbers didnt vary so...

please pardon my mistake.

was it all black smoke? or did it have a blueish tint to it? if your compression is too low, then bad piston rings could cause that. Are you losing any oil or have you noticed it burning any?
It seems I have the same problem but the smoke isn't THAT noticeable. You can smell something burning (when you get on the gas quickly, or if the car and the temperature outside is hot) when you're at a stop but you can't see any smoke until you popped the hood.

if it is black smoke then you are probably running really rich, but if your compression is so low it makes me think you might have alot of blowby, like mentioned above, have you been burning oil? Also are you checkiing your compression properly? Unplugging either the injector resistor box, or the fuse to the fuel pump, while opening the throttle all the way while getting your compression numbers?

exactly what I was thinking, blowby...but if this were the case, wouldnt the smoke be blueish? or does blowby still not aloow oil to enter the combustion chamber?

I have not tested my compression but I don't burn any oil. If I make a quick trip down the road I basically have 0 smoke. If I drive around town for an hour there is some smoke only under the hood (can't notice it if it's not popped, but you can smell it). My hood is also burning hot.
Oil burn hasnt been too bad and the color is black not blueish. So I guess that rules out the idea of alot of burning oil. And a mechanic checked the compression so im pretty sure he did it right.

possibly just running a little rich. Are you leaking any oil?

150 is pretty much minimum spec. Most people with H22's are 190-220

bad rings cause low compression right?

Yeah about that big one for me too on my 98 prelude hitting it in vtec ull see this huge somke i can see it from my rear view mirrow and trust me u wont see me cuz its black huge cloud of smoke and my car is black too, and if the car working for to long on one place, my muffler spits out this tiny black drops all over my parking and if u rev it up a little u will see them fly out preatty far back. and ill try to get my compression checked somewhrer next week. any help plz welcome

That or the valve isn't seating right (bent or extremely dirty)

Theres no way the minimum can be that low...or I personally havent seen one that low but i highly doubt it. 150 might be more reasonable but I would expect a decently healthy motor to be higher than that.
