depends what you're looking for in the hatch.

cx- gas mileage, 2075 lbs
vx- better gas mileage, 2075 lbs
dx- mid model, more horsepower than cx and vx, 2175 lbs
si- vtec model, 125 horsepower, 2300 lbs, moonroof, rear disc brakes in 93-95

if you dont care about a moonroof and will be getting a swap get a cx or vx
if you just going to keep it stock just get the Si, it's nice. i had one and miss it. drive a VX swapped hatch now though.

I like the DX, has some "extras" like the wiper blade in the back, and small stuff like that. The Si's got the most though, I'd go with that..but then again it really depends on what kind of application you want it for. For racing you'd wanna start with a VX or CX (obviously, the lightest chassis possible) but an every day driver it's really irrelavant besides the engine. And do you plan on keeping it stock or swapping the engine?

EDIT:
I apologize I didn't really answer the question, as "which EG hatch is better" - With the exception of best mpg rating, the best hatch is the Si.

if i had to go with any from the start i would go with the si. it already comes with a sohc vtec, and if you swap for a b series, vtec is already wired up.

comes with rear disc brakes, so no need for conversion.

also comes with extra goodies like sunroof, power windows, a/c, p/s.

I love my cx but si's are cool too. It just depends on what you want/what you're going to do with it.
