Just bought me a Pioneer AVIC-D2, curious to know what some paid for installation?
and it's not just for this paticular unit, any unit that has navigation would do. they say i'd get a $200 credit after MIR, is it really going to cost that much to install? i was thinking of taking it to Circuit City, that's where i take my car for all my Deck Installations.
any info would be appreciated.
i'm going to call Circuit City tomorrow and ask them but i was just curious if the night crew, or even day crew had any answers or idea's.
Thanks!

Depends on were you take it, kit, plus harness and labor. I would charge about 75+kit. Most shops about 90-150. High-ends shops about 200- 300. It depends on were you take it
well i bought it from crutchfield so it comes with all the stuff needed to install it, harness, brackets, screws, etc. but taping into wires for other features, such as getting your vehicle's stats of G forces, Speed, Vaults, Oil Temp, Water Temp, RPM, etc. causes it to step up the installation. just got off the phone with circuit city and they said 169, then he noticed it has navi, so that was more
... i just didnt think after dropping $1300 on a deck, you need another $200 for installation. they give those smaller $300 deck's free installation lol.
oh well.
any more info would be greatly appreciated!

Actually Circuit City charges $180 labor to install that. That includes hooking up your parking brake, reverse wire, speed sensor, and any slight modification it takes to fit cleanly which those units invariably require (more so the double dins). When you price the install at other places, ask if they solder the connections, connect EVERY wire (if will still work if they don't) and if they warranty the install for life.
Most places charge more for install if it wasn't purchased from them. My shop charges ~150 if purchased from us.
Hell my shop is throwing in the new AVICS1 and the ipod interface if you purchase the D2 at full rip.

work for them?
i have a buddy that works there, and he said he could get me a discount on anything in the store.. think he could get me on on installation? they said 160 or so, but then he said, maybe close to 200 or something along those lines. i mean i get 200 credit back, but still.. it sucks that it's a MIR, and not a free installation card from crutchfield.

Have your buddy talk to his best installer and work out a cash deal if you're looking for a cheap install
What else is there to explain? You ask a buddy to convince one of his installers to do it for 75-100 cash as a side job. Nuff said
How about you save yourself the money and put it in yourself???
That unit doesn't have an external tuner or nav unit (if I remember right), so with the exception of a few extra wires, it's no more difficult than putting in a regular deck...
And you've already said you got the kit & harness with the D2, so what's holding you back from having this done by now??

not having this reciever is what's holding me back, i wont get it until about a week after the 22nd. here's the link to crutchfield so you see what i'm talking about. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-L...VICD2
but the thing i'm not going to like is, they moved my amp wires from up by the dash to under the seat so it would work with the unit i have now. and they wired up my satellite radio down there too, so now that that is done, i'd haft to find out how they wired it up and un wire it, rewire it in hopes i dont mess up.
2nd of all, there's a speed wire they gota tap into, reverse wire, foot petal wire, ebrake wire, that they haft to tap into as well. idk, i mean when i get it in my hands, read up on the install instructions, maybe i COULD tackle it. and if i do, i'll be sure to take step by step instructions on how i did it too. but i'd still love to make this someone elses problem instead of mine! lol

I was just poking fun at you, lol. Pioneer makes some of the best instructions out there. When you get it take a look. Or go to http://www.pioneerelectronics.com and take a early look. Trust me money well saved if you do it yourself. I think you can do it.
Yea crutchfeild is tearing up the market on prices right now. On the inside note. There sales are dropping and there trying to get there name back on top. thats why they are having all of theses low prices. Move more in volume then on one big sale. I hate price matching them right now

It should show it, It comes with complete wireing instructions. You just branch off of the wire. And thats it.

but the joy of the fun is, finding out exactly where and what wire it is to "tap" into.. then i read the fine print, it said if you dont hook this wire up right or something along those lines, it could result in shock, malfunction of ABS, speedo not working correctly, etc. this REALLY makes me wanna do it now, lol

You will be fine, Thats why there are fuses in the car ,lol. The wire should allways be tested even if you do have a tech sheet. If you are nervouse about it its okay to take it somewere. But its pertty straight foward on the install.
