drag racing breaks a distributor?
So i decided to do a little drag run the other nite by myself, deserted road. I launched, slight wheelspin, then noticed a bog in the rev range, went to redline, shifted to second and that was it, total loss of power. I pushed the clutch in and the rpms just dropped, stuttered, then engine off. Of course i was like "**** i've done it this time!". Pulled over, tried to start it......nothing. Turned over but no start. After I calmed down I figured it might be the fuel pump. Towed it to my shop. Mechanic calls and says its the distributor. Slightly expensive but could be a lot worse. Now my QUESTION is this: is it common to damage and/or break the dizzy by drag racing? I know, I know drag racing is about the worst thing you can do to a car but is this particularly common? maybe it was just a really weird coincidence that it crapped out rite then? i'm waiting for the part to get to the mechanic so its not fixed yet but i just hope nothing else is broken.
That's weird. I've never heard of ppl having this kinda of problem drag racing, I think it was just a coincidence, probly ur coil or igniter went out, u prolly don't have to replace the entire distributor. If u're not getting any spark first just replace ur coil/ignitor.
hope to god its just the distributor. i need my car now and def dont have enuf money to fix more ****. *hmm maybe i shouldnt be dragging it then* yea i dunno what part of the distributor went. i'm ashamed to say i just left it up to the mechanic and all he said was my distributor went.
don't have much to add but first of all, I would like to congratulate you on your excellent choice of a username...secondly, I think its just a coincidence that your distributor went out
Good Luck with that
Good Luck with that
I would ask the tech what is bad and please show me on your oscilloscope PLEASE and explain it to me like I was a six year old, thank you very much.
