piston to connecting rod help
b18b1. replacing a rod, piston and rings. question is this...is there a diy method of installing the wrist pin through the rod? i have access to a press and proper tools. i'm just curious how all you diy'ers do it. the local honda dealer won't do it. they consider it "side work", which i guess is understandable. what experiences have you had doing this, and how did it turn out?
i did mine at work with a hydralic press and different size tube to press the pin off of the rod. i lay the piston on its side and making sure the piston sits flat on its side and use th e appropriate size addapter and slowly press the pin off. not too hard just take your time
everything went ok? motors running well with no problems? i'm just being over cautious because this is my first time doing this. i'm making mountains out of mole hills as they say. thanks for the feed back.
I used a press to remove the pins and a propane torch to heat the small end of the connecting rod to slip the wrist pin back in place. You have to be quick with the hot rod as it doesn't take but 2 seconds for the wrist pin to become tight again. So if you don't get it just right make your way back to the press to center the pin.
