91 EX,Stalled on acceleration and wont restart????
Hi,
Great, just great got cooling system finished and now....Coming out of a side street and car stalled and wouldnt restart.Pushed home jumped in truck...
When I tried to restart it would turn over fine but wouldnt kick until I let off the key.
When I let off the key it would kick just a little, but nothing of substance????Now nothing just turns over.
I am not hearing the fuel pump when I turn the key??? Does that sound logical??Fuel pump at 140k miles???.....
I havent been out to start testing just looking for feedback before I start.I will check for spark then I figure pull the fuel line and fill a bottle if it pumps.
Any other ideas or things that these are known for?
Thank You in advance.

Did you mess with the t-stat? Did you reinstall the ground wire on the t-stat housing?

Was the engine running okay until that episode?
When you let off the key, would it run?
Are you getting no spark at all now, from all 4 spark plug wires?
If the engine ran when you let off pressure on the key, you might have a problem with the ignition switch. You might now have a second problem, that may be a bad coil. Check specifically for those things and let us know.

Hi,
I checked two plugs ,neither had spark.
When I let off the key to begin with it was more like a little diesel, almost acted like it was flooded more than running.
No symptoms until this, just happened like something just failed.Went to get out into traffic and it just stalled and wouldnt restart,Cranked over just fine just no start.Never has done that before. No warning lights,Temp was fine etc...
We've had this car for 80k miles and never have had anything in the ignition fail so maybe it is time...It now has 143,000 on it.
I'll test the coil and stuff in the morning and let you know what I find.
I was almost happy when I found no spark...Didnt feel like dropping the fuel tank.

I tested the coil and igniter and the coil tested out bad.....The igniter tested out good but I think since they are the same age I will replace both.
Update;
I am up and running.Turned out to be the coil.No one had a three hole ignitor in stock so I was lucky that measured out good. Also did cap ,rotor and plugs while I was under the hood.
Time to take her out for a Rip!!!!
Thanks for the ideas...
