Any problems with running 100 octaine in my car daily driven...should i use a mixture half 100 and half 91 or would it matter? I found a gas station near my house that has 100 octaine and wanted to know

 

What does your mod list look like? Compression Ratios, boosted, all motor???

 

Stroked B16b stock header, greddy exhaust AEM intake

 

Do you know what 100 octane gas does?

Hint: It doesn't add 15 WHP.

 

Are you still running with a stock head and pistons?

If so, then 100 is overkill IMO. If youre still on a stock compression, then you really dont need anything more than 89 or 91.

 

I think you are misunderstanding...i didnt want it as performance gain or anything...just thought it might be a treat for the car everyonce in a while...kind of like octaine boost only better

 

Better octane fuel does nothing. Only increases the amount of compression the cylinder can have before detonation. You, with your setup, dont really need it unless you go FI, or a high compression N/A setup.

Modern fuels have detergents in them to clean out the fuel system, and thats really all you need from time to time. Nothing special.

 

K...i was just wondering if it would hurt anything. No harm in asking but thanks for the info. after i purchase my turbo setup then would be a godd time for 100 octaine?

It really depends on how much boost you plan on running. 5-8 psi wouldnt hurt to bump to 91 or 93. Once you start getting into the teens and on up to 19-20 lbs, then yeah, it would nearly be a requirement.

 

octane ratings are just a measure basically of how hard the fuel is to completely combust. more ignition resistant fuel = better defense against detonation. adding oil to your gas will raise the octane rating.... not particularly ina good way but still..

it wont HURT your car but its a waste of money. 91 is fine... just use 91 and paypal me the difference same thing as buying 100

LOL at the rate my VX burns oil i can have 20:1 compression and not detonate

Not only is it a bit of overkill...whats the price per gallon? If its significantly higher than premium goes for in your town its a waste of money too.

And for the record, surely you figured it out by now but its "Octane". At least you didnt spell brakes "Breaks"...that **** really chaps my ***.


But yeah...definetly interested in the price. Ive seen nothing above 93 in NJ.

He is wrong. "Octane" is a molecule. The only way to "raise it" (increase the percentage of it in the mixture) is to add more of it or subtract non-octane molecules. Oil is not octane.

That was quite possibly one of the most retarded suggestions I've read on HT.

If your not tuned for it dont waste your money on it. Especially at the pump, its like $10 a gallon for F&L and about 11$ for VP (55 dollars for 5 gallons)

 

Tell me if I'm wrong, but if your car is programmed to run on 91 octane, 100 octane is going to not work as effeciently for you car. Right? I mean the figure that out when they make the car. Just like you probably dont want to run 85 octane.?

 

when cars are tuned there tunned on the gas they plan on running like a track car will be tuned on race gas 100+ octane yours is a street drivin car for everyday use u want to run 91-93 what ever u have there that should be what that motor needs running 100 will slow u down because thats not what your tune is for?? u understand that i said that all messed up

you can drive an hour to Englishtown for (I think) 120 octane gas.

I agree with jerbear!, if it changes the car's performance in any way, it'll be for the worse. Your wallet will especially hate you for buying it.

 

my cousin mixed 100 with 91 to get 95 and he noticed the revs went up a lot quicker(s2k)
