I just replaced my rack and pinion yesterday and descided to run it without power steering and took off all the lines. I tried my hardest to fill it up with some p/s steering fluid and i capped the lines. When i drive it, only turns so far and won't let me make a u turn or anything close to that. I'm trying to figure this out. Please help me..
The reason for that is the fluid is working against the pistons in the rack. With nowhere for the fluid to go by capping the line, its like filling an engine cylinder with oil. It cannot compress the fluid thats in there.
You need to drain the fluid off of the rack and pinion, but leave a little for lubrication.

would it be better if i un cap one of the caps and just let air out and let fluid out? Thanks for the advice, if that's the issue then i will run like that
I got it. The best thing to do would be connect a steel braded line to each hole. So that it circulates the fluid out and back in.

And you said his problem was he had air in the rack, how is that going to work?

it would be better if you just put it back to the way it was. getting rid of you p/s isn't going to save you that much weight or gain that much horsepower.
