looking for a 16x8 wheel 4x114.3, maybe +40 or +45 offset
Hey all,
I'm looking for a 16x8 wheel in about +40 to +45 offset. Anyone heard of any good choices out there?
I called Tire Rack, they had a Borbet Type B in +40, 16x7.5. 19 lbs, $110 or so. Not bad.
rotawheels.com says that there's a +48mm 16x8 Slipstream. That might be worth looking at. It might need a spacer.
This is for a 1993 Prelude (Si/VTEC), planning to run 245/45R16 tires.

That's WAY too big for that car. It will almost certainly rub! On a '93 Prelude, you should be getting 205/50-16 tires, and putting them on 16x7 wheels.
(Maybe that was a typo, and you meant to say 225/45-16?)

Hi Ken. You suck. There's a ton of room in my fender wells with 225/45 R15's.
Yes, I am still considering running the 245/45R16 Toyo. I think I'll probably move the 'Lude to a 5x114.3 pattern that is easier to find wheels in, and either get some 17x8's or 16x8's and use 235/40 R17 or 245/45 R16.
This is a spec tire class, Toyo RA1, and RA1's aren't particularly wide. I could use more tire than my current 225/45 R15 on 15x7 wheels. At least 15x8 would help, but I figure I might as well go whole hog.
And, I'll probably share tires with the DC2 too, at some point!

Thanks Ed!

That doesn't mean there is enough room for 245/45-16.

If it's for track tires, knock yourself out.

The ITR takes smaller tires and has less room in the wheel wells. So what works in the 'lude won't necessarily work in the 'teg. But hey, as long as they work in one car, it's easy enough to try them on the other one. You've got nothing to lose; even if they don't fit the other car, it's not like you'll get stuck with tires you can't use...

Yeah, a 245/45 R16 would be silly, but a 235/40 R17 wouldn't be unheard of. That's the size Andrie won H1 with in his Civic. The DC2 guys are running 15x? 225/45 R15's.

That size (225/45-15) is okay; its diameter is actually smaller than stock. But those bigger sizes would probably rub big-time, not only because of the wider tread, but also the larger outer diameter. Look at the diameters and how they compare with the stock size for the ITR (DC2):
195/55-15 23.44 inches stock
225/45-15 22.97 inches -2.0 percent
245/45-16 24.68 inches +5.3 percent
235/40-17 24.40 inches +4.1 percent

Yeah, I don't really want to lengthen my 3rd gear (on the lude anyway), but **** happens. More tire is more tire. I overheat tires as it is, more rubber will be heavier and longer gearing but i'll live.
My springs are stiff enough, I don't think it'll rub. My wheel wells really do have a lot of room in them.
