My EF hatches and how they compare, not impressed by the latest.
Well, it all started a little over a year ago when I got my first EF, a 1990 SI. The car was mint. You know how everyone says "yeah, an old women had it and only drove it to church".... well, I bought mine from the old women herself! Car burned oil I found out after I put a new exhaust on it and opened her up a bit! Shortly after I rebuilt the motor with new Rod bearings, rings, honed cylinders, head gasket, IM gasket and exhaust manifold gasket. Car was fresh and doesnt burn a drop of oil to this day! Replaced the clutch, brakes and threw some VX 13 inch rims on it from a 92 VX hatch, and got rid of the car for a 1989 hatch that a buddy had recently done a B16A swap in and had painted. Car looked great, and ran HARD! I had that for awhile, added a nice intake, new exhaust, fixed up the interior only to end up gutting it out, rhinno lining the interior and only putting in 2 seats and the dash. Threw some JDM look alike rims on it and sold that off. Now I have a 1991 hatch originally from California. The car is super clean, no rust whatsoever anywhere. Needs some work however, it is flat black and used to have a body kit riveted to it, neds holes patched and paint job. I just bought all the materials for body work and primer, paint will come next weekend.
ANYWAY, the reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if my LS motor runs to its full potential or not. The engine has 160K on it, but doesnt burn any oil at all. The whole deal is that I think it is more comperable to my first SI in power than my B16A car. Keep in mind I had a KLZE (japanese V6) in a mazda mx-3 just before this hatch I have now. So maybe I am used to a torque monster, i dont know. It will chirp second gear with the stock clutch at like 2500 RPM, and has some get up and go, but on the top end it feels.. Daily driver ish... I know they only have 130 horse as compared to the 160 of the B16. The thing runs smooth as glass, should I assume it runs like its supposed to? I know a lot of people have experience with this swap, so tell me what you htink overall.
thanks for the help, sorry for the life story!
