Power drop at 2000 RPM 96 Accord EX F22B1 4cl VTEC 5sp Need help!
96 Accord EX 4dr 5sp 2.2 4 Cyl VTEC- 190K
In 3rd, 4th and 5th gear while cruising around 2000 RPM I notice a significant power loss, like the car slows down but the speedometer does not fall back. BTW the speedometer only works occasionally (replaced with new VSS (complete ***) - but did not fix the problem). Anyway, anyone know where to begin on the power loss? It is most noticeable in 5th gear while in cruise control and tach at 2000 RPM. I appreciate any suggestions.

You're shifting awfully low. Isn't that bad for the transmission? If you're in 5th gear and at 2k rpms, isnt that around 40 mph? That's quite low.
NO its around 50-55 mph in 5th and maybe 40 mph in 4th gear. And t is noticeable only in cruising speed.

Maybe i'm not the guy you need to be talkin to, because i'm pretty confused. define "crusing" speed.. using cruise control? When you accel. up to around 3-3.5k rpms, do you get your power back? take it to a shop?
So at that particular engine RPM when you begin to cruise at a steady speed it occurs?
Your EGR valve is opened at idle and during steady cruise situations like what you posted. During acceleration it is closed. It is possible that when you begin to cruise and your EGR valve opens the problem occurs.
Do you have a CEL? You may want to check into EGR valve and port cleaning.

It could also be an ignition problem. How long have you had your current plugs and wires? Could even be the distributor fouling up.
