problem with my honda
I got a 1992 honda civic hatch si. The problem I have is, my car will start when the engine is cool but when it starts to warm up like 5 mins or so, the car shuts down suddenly. Its been doing this for a while but i was able to start it back up, but now it just wont start. I'll have to wait for hours before i could turn the engine back on but like i said it shuts back down. Before all this started happening, my car will feel like going from 1st gear to 4th gear whenever i shift. And now i have this problem, i'm thinking it could be my ignitor because thats the only thing left i could think of everything else i've check. Please help if anyone have encounter this problem.
is it spontaneous? or is it preditable, like exactly five minutes, or like 5 minutes here, and 9 another time? does it sound like its missing at all? and, do you have a check engine light? if its an electric problem, normally the PCM will throw a code. also, have to done anything recently to the car? if so let that be known.
If you suspect ignitor or the coil, do a resistance test on both of them, the haynes manual has test specs for both of these devices, test them, see if they are out of spec. electronic devices produce higher resistances because of heat, so once it gets hot it may have so much resistance that it breaks the circuit, and kills the car.

I can't predict exactly when it will die but i know i cant drive it around the block. I had a msd ignition kit in my car but i took it out because of what was happening. So i went and bought a stock coil ignition for my car but it still does the samething. I think it might of been my msd that cause all this problem to my car. Maybe the msd was sending too much spark or something. The check engine light doesnt come on though and my radiator is leaking, I thought it might of been my thermostat but its not. I can't predict exactly when it will die but i know i cant drive it around the block
my advice will be to do a compression test. my dx motor did the samething. it drove me crazy, couldn't drive the car because it will leave me stranded. turned out to be a blown head gasket.
