Default WTF? smoke after i put new header on. HELP!

1997 Civic HB

So i did a mini me swap to my car a month ago and the car smoked when vtec kicked in so i have rarely hit vtec. now today i received my new header in the mail.

ever since i did the swap the car did not smoke unless you hit vtec. and the car wasnt smoking today. so i installed the new header, just to see what it sounds like with just header on i fired it up and punched it (DAMN THATS LOUD!) and no smoke unless i hit vtec.

so i go to connect up the rest of my exhaust (no cat now) and the header was 2.5" and my stock exhaust didnt match up, so i got them connected eventually and no exhaust leak from the connection.

NOW the car smokes even at 2k. WTF could have caused this? and it smells like oil burning.

also for some odd reason my oil is 1 qt over now when yesterday it was even. could it being a qt over cause smoking?

Yes, it will burn it off.

But I suggest draining out a quart instead of burning off a quart.

yes, it would look like you were in spy hunter and hit the smoke screen button.

Perhaps you had some leaky valvestem seals or worn pistons/rings that were noit smoking too badly until you gave it full throttle a few times to test the header out, so now they've gotten worse.

A header in itself should not cause any excessive smoking from the tailpipe.

What COLOR is the smoke?

smoke out of the tail pipe or out of your engine bay?

During install the grease from your hands can get on the header and when it gets hot, it smokes. Very common.

its a grayish smoke, and i know that the some valve seals are bad and when i tested out the header i only revved it to maybe 6k

but im going to drain some oil today to see if it fixes it. i tihnk i just may change it and go back to conventional or synth blend

I don't think it was the synthetic; but the extra quart.

i know but wouldnt the synth cause it to leak more because when i had no real smoking issue i had full and it smoked like it was then it was a qt over than that is where this issue happened and now i went back to conventional and its not as bad

BTW:

Exacyly how much oil are you putting in your engine? It should really only be about 3.5 quarts with an oil and filter change.
