88 Accord fuel pump trouble
Hi all this is my first post here but I have been a reader for a long time. Lots of good stuff in here. I have a 1988 Accord LX stick 145K miles with a fuel pump problem, It runs fine and all of a sudden it starts loosing power and then it shuts off, I think that it might be something with the pump, because I can hear it humming when the car is running and when the car stops running I dont hear it. I peeled a little bit of plastic of the yellow wire and checked for current with a tester and there is current going in. If I wait for 10 minutes or so it starts right up, but sometimes it will only run for a little and then it shuts off again, other times it could run for days with no problem until it decides to act up again. I would like to mention that it has a wire running from the fuse box directly to the pump, but I have been driving it like that for over a year. ( I bought the car like that) Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions. I love this car and I'm planning on keeping it for a long time.
I am having similar problems with mine. Does not shut off, but loses power even when the rpm goes up and kicks into passing gear. Just keeps going slower and slower. I have changed the carb (refurbisherd from National Carburetors for $149 plus shipping and core), fuel pump and both filters. I Checked all the hoses and have had it into Honda a few times. It is an intermittent problem that mostly occurs when going up hill. Please let me know if you find out what it is.

Considering this post is 6 years old I wouldn't hold out for an answer from the OP anytime soon.
Check the float level. There is a sight glass on the side of the carb, once the air cleaner base is removed, view from the drivers/left fender. At idle and on level ground the level in the bowl should be "right in the middle". If it is low or high there is an adjustment that can be done......yes I'm kind of old and have "played" with a few of these 3rd gens in my life.....currently own three of them.
