Mini project log: Blade Silver CRX Resurrection Lots-o-pics.
If the mods want to move this to A/C i will understand but i thought that this pertains more to CRX/EF then anything else and i think you guys will like this.
So i have put it off long enough. I need ALOT of runt repair. If i wasn't so blind to cancer when i bought the car i wouldn't be in this situation, but that is beside the point.
This log will only be a week or so long for now because of funds, untill i get it painted at least.
When i first got the car there was a small amount of rust on the left rear quarter and i kept thinking that it won't go any where, its not that much, not big deal. HAHA, yea right. I have gotten into a hole and i have to get myself out of it. Theres alot of work to do but i have some connections and i hope that this will give you guys some insperation to stop junking these cars and start "restoring them"
Here are some pics of what i have to start with:

drivers rear quarter

Drivers rocker

Passenger Quarter

The parts
new rear wheel archs thanks to Will aka 88 rex

brand new honda rockers

the car goes the body shop tomorrow (friday) and i should see it back by monday.
im not planning on painting it right away, i will probably have to wait a month or two. the most important thing is that i don't want to rush anything and have a great clean stock looking car when it is done.
any comments and questions are welcome.

..mind if i ask how much you paid for the rear wheel archs and rocker panels?

well i work at a dealer so i got the rockers for $75 a piece and both arches were $135 picked up. the archs are acutally for a civic. the only diffrence is below the lower trim piece, but the rockers come up past the lower trim so i don't think it will be an issue

looks like a great start bro. u have the color that my rex will soon be. do you by any chance have the antenna block off plate number???
jdmazm: yea they are going to cut them out and grapht in the new pieces. i don't know if they are going to weld or glue them in but they ARE going to coat the back of everything with POR 15 to keep the rust from coming back.
La EF-8: i don't have a block off plate. if you look close you can see the antenna sticking up in the first pic

well i just dropped my car off today and they said that i will most likley be done by next saturday. he said that they were going to glue certian areas and weld others. i trust that they will fix it right. ive seen some of the cars that they have finished and i must say that that glue **** really works. its actually stonger then a weld and is much easier because you can put whatever product on the back of the metal ie: POR 15, and you don't have to worry about burning it.
They said that they will POR 15 the back of EVERYTHING so theres no chance that it could start agian, at least i hope. i can't wait!
on a side note, i think the rockers from majestic are around $85 and i wouldn't see y they wouldn't have them for a hatch.

I would prefer to have the panels welded in, I have never heard of gluing in patch panels. At least you are doing it the right way and not just trying to "cure" the existing rust. At my shop we weld in panels and then coat the back of them with rust inhibitor stuff, so no worries about burning the stuff.
Cool project but I don't know about this whole gluing thing.
On a side note, I kinda have a beef with POR 15 products. I tried to use there flexable fuel tank coating on a tank for E-85 and the stuff dissolved and came off in sheets.
I did EVERYTHING according to directions and the stuff says on the package that it's compatible with all gasoline and alcohol.

i dunno, you are the only person that i have ever heard that had a problem with them. did you try contacting them and see what they said?
im gonna stick with what they said about the whole glueing thing, besides who am i to tell them how to do their job.
i hate when people come into out shops and think they know everything about cars, that drives be nuts. worse comes to worse they start to crack along the glue joints and i take it back and have them welded in. no worries. glueing is fairly new to the industry and ive heard nothing bad about it so far.
my friend had a 93 civic hatch and was in my position, with the rust and all. he had the same thing done and it has been fine for about 3 months now, no problems. we'll see.

and i wont need anything structal done. if you have every seen the power block on spike tv, on trucks, they did a red s10 that they put a v8 in and they use the glue to put patch pannels in. they fixed the cab corners with it.

Update:
I stopped by the body shop today and checked on the progress and they have all the patches in and even have some of the "mud" on. i didn't think they would be this far by now. Everything is looking very good at the moment, and i hope to have the car back by monday.
Pics:

i wish i could have gotten pics of all the stuff they cut out but i didn't get there in time.

question: if you had the replacement panels - why are the ones on your car getting repaired not replaced?
Rear wheel arches are getting bogged?? </TD></TR></TABLE>
they only used what they need to keep the cost of materials down. they didn't use the whole rocker because 75% of the rocker was still good and didn't need replaced. all the metal that was take out because of rust was replaced with fresh metal.
bogged? whats that lol do you mean filled. the metal was replaced and a skim coat of filler is put over the top to make it silky smooth. they still have alot of sanding to do, and primer
