Type R or 06 evo 9
Here's the deal... I got 2 offers this week to buy my R for more than i bought it for 2 years ago. I have a chance to get an 06 evo 9 for a steal what should i do???
note, My R is my daily driver that i have to drive 150 + miles a day for work.. never in my life did i ever think about selling my R but now this situation has come up. What should do ???? oh yea one last thing, my R has 84k miles on her
thanks

Well, we've seen folks sell their Rs, get a turbocharged AWD car and report back later they miss their R. Assuming they're genuine, and I think they are, there's that anecdotal evidence.. but only you can decide what you want.
Sell for more than you bought it for? If you're not galvanized to this particular R, then consider selling, and if you tire of the Evo IX, come back into the fold later. Maybe you can come back having gained experience about what else is out there. You might find an R with lower miles, or maybe change up with a different color next time - or might be totally happy with the Evo.
I'm not going to dismiss that the Evo IX is a great car, so gather some other opinions and of course drive an Evo if you haven't yet. The decision is all up to you.

Too bad you can't keep both... No matter what else come out, no matter how fast or badass it is, there's still something about the R that turns my head every time I see them!!
To the guy above, why do you hate one6 so bad?? I did a lot of business with them in the past and they took very good care of me.

try asking the guy who wants your car why?? ask him WHY he wants your car instead of getting anything else...like say, an EVO 9?
see what he says and ask yourself if you still wanna sell the R
good luck either way

That's a dern good idea.
To add to that, if you have the ability to, park the R in a relative's garage for a few days and drive another family member's car (or your other car if you have one). Try to simply be without it for a few days and see what you feel about it when you get back in it.

i can see how you have a dilema about this. i was in similar situation and i ended up buying 2nd R because i missed it so much. both cars has pros and cons, but it all depends on the person and their situation.
it might not be a bad idea to try out evo 9 and see how you like it. you will either love it so much, you'll forget about the R, or you will realize more how awesome R is. you can always come back and find a good, clean R with lower miles these days with little patience.
good luck with your decision.

well...
i have owned 2 ITR's and i now own an EVO IX MR
and my conclusion is this:
the evo is absolutely a beast and is still very sharp for a 4 door, handles well, no traction issues, no OBD2-OBD1 tuning bullshit like in the R, its new, it has way more potential, its reliable, it comes loaded, on and on and on.
BUT! the evo is way to expensive, i pay 600 a month and the insurance is HIGHER than a type R.
you can only use mobil synthetic oil on the evo, every 15k or so if you drive hard you have to replace expensive mitsubishi transfer case, rear diff and tranny oil/fluid.
the evo clutch will last about 40k at MAX, unless your a total *****
the evo advan tires last about 10k miles at $250 a whack
there is a LOT more maintenance with the evo than the R
but, you pay to play...
Now with the R on the other hand:
The R is more rare, and turns equal amounts of heads as the EVO, maybe more
The R has Vtec!
The R is a 2 door, chicks like them more, they are much cheaper to own
The R FEELS more like a raw race car, where you sit much lower and such.
nicer interior
but
the R doesnt perform to the evo's level and has no where near the same potential
its highly stolen
overall, i wish i never sold my R
And i say this ONLY because i was only paying 350 a month on my R, and it costs less to maintain
i pay double to keep my evo on the road and GAS MILEAGE SUCKS!
i had a lot of money in my R and in fear of losing it to thieves and other personal reasons, i sold her
now im stuck in a car that i cant really afford comfortably, is becomming a high theft car in itself and i have to sell it anyway
probably for an R
ok, i babbled on aimlessly long ebough, i dont even know if i made sense
but anyway, keep the R, unless you TRULY believe you can afford the evo, while being happy, while not caring that its a 4 door and the seats DO NOT FOLD DOWN in the rear, making it impossible to carry large objects, knowing that you will spend more time maintaining, tuning, modding and tweaking then ever before, then go nuts
PM me if you have questions or if you want a sick EVO 9 MR

That is a good way of putting it. Coming from owning a Subaru STI, the gas consumption on the R is definitely way better. And turbo lag was a major irritant. Too many iterations of the EVO while you have only one R(well technically 5 but in different markets).
FWIW, I own both. If you can swing it that's what I'd suggest.
Let me put it to you this way, I don't have any intention of ever selling my R.
But I'd consider moving up from the EVO in a few years, to say a used Porsche, or newer M3, or C6 Z06. I understand the differences in each machine but currently I don't feel the same connection to the EVO as I do with the R. And keep in mind the EVO is my daily driver with no intention of modding, and my R has extremely limited mods, mostly for safety at the track.

Can you borrow the Evo for a few days and live with it, to help you decide? That's what I would suggest.
Also, you might think about these two questions (the "downside risk", if you will)...
1. How bad would you feel if you sold the R, bought the Evo, and then regretted it? And what is the likelihood that might happen?
2. How bad would you feel if you didn't go through with it, and then regretted not doing it? And what is the likelihood that might happen?

I miss mine alot there is nothing like hitting Vtec in the R yeah the evo is nice i give you that but in 15 years when your older the evo will just be another car now the R is a classic like a fine wine it will only get better with time ( yeah i know that sounded gay ) i driven evo's acr srt4's sti's even my dad's GT3 ( ok maybe i would pick that one over a R ) but none of them real as good as when your driving the Type R Just my .02
