its an antenna kinda comes out like your antenna on cars but it is a parking light used to help as a indicator for how close you get to something

 

Bumper pole to aid in parking. Japans parking situation is a lot different than here so i guess it helped.

Its called a parking pole and is used in JDM vehicles to help the drivers see how close they are to the object they are parking in front of.

It's a visible point to where the actual location of the front of your bumper is. Think of it as a better view from the driver's seat, as to where the actual front of your car is. Much easier to park, when you know where the front of your bumper is.

What's funny is that on a LHD car, the bumper pole should be on the RIGHT side of the bumper (passenger side of the car), the furthest away part from the driver. Everybody leaving it on the driver side because that's how it comes on JDM RHD cars is pointless and is only for show. To actually use it affectively, it needs to be on the passenger side of the car.

IMO, having a bumper pole on your car is about as cool as having one of these on your car:
