Default Overheating Ninja

Hello HT. I am a newer user, but have been lookin gat this site for a while now. I have an 87 ninja 500. It had developed a leak in the cooling system, so i was recommened to add that stop leak in a can stuff.

This stopped the leak, but has since restricted flow (my guess) and my bike over heats constantly. I tried flushing it out a couple times, ran some sea foam through it (really helped the most i think, as i can ride it further now before meltdown temps). I took the thermostat out to free up coolant movement because the bike warms up just fine obvisously. That helped it run a little cooler too.

So thats all I can think of to do. Radiator seems to allow flow just fine, and the impeller on the water pump shaft is in good shape, no bent or damaged fin's.

Is there anything else I could do thats cheaper than a new engine? Or some way to get that stop leak out of the system? I fear there isnt and it has been cooked onto the walls of the system.

Thanks for looking and any ideas.

Stop leak is junk. If everything you say is correct it sounds like its time for a rebuild. GL

is the fan coming on? if not i'd check there. when my bike started overheating it was something as stupid as a blown radiator fan fuse.

yea, i fear the rebuild. would rather get a new bike than deal with putting the time effort and money into an old bike.

the fan kicks on, and will keep the temp from spiking when i stop at a light or sign after a freeway ride. otherwise i think i would have a molten puddle of aluminum at my feet. Its looking like the stop leak clogged it up, and from there, will have to see what financial options i have
