OT: Snailed MR > snailed FF
So I get a call from my Canada-ian buddy Jim Monday night. He was my neighbour at the old apartment, but moved to dirty Jersey not long after I moved out to BFE. He cut right to the chase - "You are not going to believe this ****. You want an MR2 cheap?"
I, being a Cheap Bastard, cut in with "How cheap is cheap?"
"Never mind," says he, "listen to this." And he begins to tell me a story. Turns out he was garage buddies with a guy up there who had this white MR2 Turbo. Jim's got a red one, built like all hell (posted pics of it here way long ago). Anyway, Jim doesn't see his buddy for a few weeks, but runs into the guy's wife at the garage. She offers him the car for an absolute steal - she caught her husband with a 17-year-old high school chick, and threw him out. The guy had shitty credit or something, so the car was in her name, and she just wanted enough to cover a credit card bill or something.
So Jim buys it, but his apartment complex won't let him keep it - he had a work truck in addition to the red MR2 and his lady's truck, so the white car had to go. I wired him the money and got him a plane ticket yesterday, and he drove it down today
'95 turbo, 81k miles, tan leather.

Slammed with some sort of Tein suspension

What kind of Volks are these? (No really, I have no idea)

Dirty ride down

So far I've backed it out of the driveway and drove it down the court and back. Clutch feels about wore out, but it may just be the release point. Set off the alarm twice already. Need to strip the tint, raise it up, and get it inspected. No worries about emissions - no longer required for OBD1 here
No idea how this is going to work out - Bef's going to **** a kitten when she sees it in the driveway
Apparently I'm not allowed more than four cars - not sure how that's going to shake out.
Anyone know how to get the engine compartment open? No book in the glove box.

Why not leave the tint, it can offer the lady in the next lane a sense of mystery as to who's behind the wheel of the exotic little beauty. Then you turn on the vanity light and she peels off

No way in hell the tint will pass - it's dark as ****. I had to put the windows down to back up, and I can't even see out of the rear glass.
So yeah, about that engine cover thing - anyone?

Is the engine cover release behind the driver's seat, on the rear firewall?
That's where it is in my friend's first gen MR2.

Close, it's behind the door right about there, Jim called to check on things and told me where it was. Manual boost controller, tasteful powdercoated bits, and the hot stuff is ceramic-coated. Pretty cool
But seems like all good things come with something bad - Bef called around 8:45 in a panic, she hit something in the road on her way home in the Silver Bullet. She was able to limp it to my brother and sis-in-law's house a few miles away, and I met her there to see what happened. Tore up the tranny cooler lines, resulting in a near-total loss of fluid. Thankfully my bro was able to let her borrow his 4Runner (she can't drive manual), and I'll get the Bullet towed here tomorrow and see what I see. I can swap the cooler lines over from Boxy (laid up with a driveline issue), and then see what I've got
Any suggestions on a safe automagic sled, '97 or newer, $15k or less?

See my post a few up - after her night, all I got was "I'll look at it tomorrow."

Lessons learned:
1. Don't cheat on your wife.
2. Don't put your wife on the title or get her off of it asap.
3. Know who your real friends are.
Awesome car though. 95s are super rare.
So how much you get it for? $2k?

wow awesome pickup. I looked for one of these like 5 yrs ago, and they were going for like $10K with 100K miles on them lol.
Im curious on the production numbers on these, they have to be pretty damn rare and its really hard to find a nice used one with lower mileage.

'95 was the last year in the US - somewhere between 900 and 1000 came over.

YOU ******.
If you ever get rid of it, let me know.
I love 94/95 SW20s..
On a MR2 related note, a buddy of mine just picked up a 88 MR2 supercharged from the original owner with 20,900 miles for $5,500, mint/perfect condition. It's in good company with his Elise, 911 RS America, 97 ITR, etc..
