Just got another prelude
Hey all.Just bought me a 89 prelude mainly for parts, unless I decide to fix it.I pulled the dipstick to check the oil level and it smells like gas !! I have not tryed to start the car cause of this.
So what causes gas to get into the oil?
I was thinking bad headgasket but my searches are comping up with coolant in the oil,not gas in oil.

try doing a dry compression test , then a wet compression test....record all cyclinder values as you take the readings. if rings are in good shape, the compression should not increase that much...but if the rings are worn, the compression readings will increase telling you that the oil has sealed the ring. so if the rings are in bad shape and your fuel system is pumping in too much fuel, it could be leaking into your crankcase....thus the smell of gas in your oil. Good luck to you!
